HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA: Andrew Garfield moved everyone at the 2025 Academy Awards on Sunday, March 2, with a heartfelt tribute to Goldie Hawn, leaving the actress in tears.

“Can I tell you something really quickly? There's someone, there's a person who gave my mother, during her life, the most joy, the most comfort,” he addressing the 79-year-old actor. “And tonight, I feel very lucky because I get to thank that person from the bottom of my heart. That person is Goldie Hawn," Andrew Garfield said, holding Goldie Hawn’s hand as he spoke directly to her.

He continued, “I can feel her smiling at us in this moment,” to which Hawn replied, “And now I'm smiling too.”

"You've given us movies full of joy. You've lifted our spirits and you've made us feel it all was right with the world, over and over again," he added.

His words were a deeply personal acknowledgment, with Garfield reflecting on the joy Hawn’s films brought to his family, especially his mother, who passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2019, People reported.

The moment was visibly emotional, and Hawn, clearly moved, responded, "Thank you so much, that really touches me."

The 'First Wives Club' star, known for bringing laughter to audiences for decades, spoke humbly about the gift of making people smile, acknowledging that not every film may have had the desired effect but that it was all part of the journey.

"I was so lucky [to] make movies... and making people laugh," Hawn said, adding, "And maybe some didn't, but that's okay."

The tribute was particularly significant for Garfield, who has been open about the grief he’s experienced since losing his mother. In a September 2024 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Garfield discussed how he has coped with her death.

Andrew Garfield continued to reflect on the universal nature of grief, acknowledging that the loss of a parent is something many experience. "Sons have been losing their mothers, daughters have been losing their mothers [since the beginning of time]," he said.

"We’re lucky if it’s that way around, rather than the other. And of course, countless parents lose their children in one way or another too, I can’t even imagine what that must feel like," he remarked.
