Angel Reese ejected from game for 'disrespecting official' after being fined amid Caitlin Clark rivalry
BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA: Angel Reese’s WNBA rookie season took another controversial twist when she was ejected after receiving back-to-back technical fouls.
Amid her feud with Caitlin Clark, Chicago Sky forward Reese was ejected from the game on Monday, June 3 night after her emotions reached a boiling point during a heated fourth quarter against the New York Liberty. Reese argued a foul call, which led to a heated argument with one of the referees, which is how the incident started.
Angel Reese ejected from game
The Chicago Tribune first reported the WNBA’s decision. With less than three minutes left in the match versus the Liberty, there was a second technical. Reese scored 13 points in 24 minutes on 3-of-12 shooting from the field. She also contributed her first career block, ten rebounds, and an assist.
Head coach Teresa Weatherspoon and the rest of Reese's players were perplexed by her ejection. "I tried to get an explanation. I did not," Weatherspoon told ESPN. "I don't know to this moment what has happened."
Maj Forsberg, the lead official, told reporters after the game, Reese received technical fouls for "disrespectfully addressing" the official and then for "waving her hand in dismissal."
"She got two techs, she said something to the ref," Sky star Marina Mabrey said, before adding, "Whatever he felt like was the correct call is what he made. It's more about composure for us in our young years in the WNBA. You've got to get to know refs and how they respond to things."
The confrontation escalated as Reese was seen yelling and speaking aggressively with the referee. The situation quickly deteriorated when Reese shouted, "That's BS," prompting the official to issue consecutive technical fouls, culminating in her removal from the game.
