LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Meghan Markle has not been to the Met Gala yet despite Anna Wintour’s wish.

In 2019, during a sit-down with TODAY, Wintour said, as reported by The Mirror, “I would love to have the Duchess of Sussex and the Duchess of Cambridge [Kate’s then-title prior to becoming the Princess of Wales] together.”

Anna Wintour wanted Meghan Markle to ‘leave’ Prince Harry ‘at home’

She also noted, “That would be my dream couple.”

But the editor-in-chief of Vogue added at the time, “They could leave their husbands at home. It’s the two of them I want.”

At the time, Meghan and Harry were still living in the UK before stepping down from their senior royal duties in 2020.

The pair also then moved to the US, damaging their relationship with the members of the royal family.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry accused royal family of mistreatment

Since then, the Sussexes have also given bombshell interviews and released books, and documentaries, making serious accusations against the Palace.

In 2021, the former actress told Oprah Winfrey while recalling her first pregnancy time, “In those months when I was pregnant—all around the same time, we had in tandem, 'He won’t be given security, he's not going to be given a title,' and also concerns and conversations over how dark his skin might be when he was born.”

At the time, Meghan also shared about her wedding and her alleged fight with Kate.

She added, “I don't say that to be disparaging to anyone, because it was a really hard week of the wedding, and she was upset about something. But she owned it, and she apologized, and she brought me flowers and a note apologizing.”

Internet shares mixed feelings about Meghan Markle at Met Gala

Meanwhile, Wintour’s 2019 statement has garnered some attention with a reader writing below The Mirror article, “This was 5 years ago. A lot has happened since then. Doubt she still thinks Megan would be a dream guest given how she is being shunned by the very people she wants to emulate.”

Another user commented, “Princess Meghan is a dream guest for most events.”

“She didn't ‘skip’ it. She wasn't actually invited in the first place,” a person remarked.

Someone else stated, “That’s hilarious.. she may have been a dream guest before she started her campaign against her husband's family… I think you will find a lot has changed since 2019… definitely not invited.”

“Like the report says, a lot has happened since 2019 and the invites for MM have dried up. Anna Wintour was known to love and have great respect for HM QEII. MM and her behaviour is too well known now,” a comment read.
