'Anything to get noticed': Internet outraged as Doja Cat wears a wet T-shirt dress to the 2024 Met Gala
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Doja Cat's daring choice of attire for the 2024 Met Gala has ignited a flurry of reactions among netizens, with opinions sharply divided on whether her unconventional look should be celebrated or condemned, as per Unilad.
Stepping onto the red carpet, Doja Cat turned heads as she sported what appeared to be a maxi-length white T-shirt, which was designed by Vetements.
While leaving the Mark Hotel, the musician posed alongside Vetements creative director Guram Gvasalia in a just-out-of-shower look, wearing only a white towel.
Doja Cat's unusual Met Gala outfit
In the red carpet look, Doja Cat's glittery makeup seemed to be running down her face. The 28-year-old artist added a touch of glamour to her ensemble with platform pumps and diamond jewelry while flaunting her clean buzz cut.
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Doja Cat shed light on the inspiration behind her outfit, explaining her choice of a white T-shirt as a timeless symbol and a deliberate move to stand out from the other attendees.
She also revealed that her wet appearance wasn't just an illusion and that her team had applied hair gel all over her body to achieve the effect.
Doja Cat shared, "So, I know that people are going to do flowers but my flower of choice is the most used flower which is cotton," referencing the 2024 Met Gala's "Garden of Time" dress code, which was inspired by a JG Ballard short story of the same name that mentions crystal flowers.
"And so I wanted to do a white T-shirt, also because a white T-shirt is timeless and it felt very poetic to choose this. And I knew it wasn't going to blend in too much and I don't really like to blend in. So, we went with this," elaborated the 'Agora Hills' crooner about her interpretation of this year's dress code.
Doja Cat's Met Gala dress draws criticism from netizens
While Doja Cat might have thought outside the box when it came to the 2024 Met Gala dress code, netizens perceived it as an inappropriate fashion choice for such a prestigious event.
One said, "so she wore a bath towel. man jesus lord fix it," while another said, "When you’re boring AF. U gotta do anything to get noticed."
Someone else added, "I mean she def ready to sleep so on theme." An individual quipped, "Me after my everything shower."
A person pointed out the obvious writing, "Cotton isn’t a flower tho 😭😭😭," and one more asked, "Why is the cotton wet?"
"She should’ve stayed in the bathroom," remarked another person as a frustrated netizen added, "This is getting tired now. She doesn’t have to meme everything."
