WASHINGTON, DC: The progressive 'Squad' Democrats in the House of Representatives have expressed their support for Vice President Kamala Harris to be at the top of the party ticket in the upcoming general election, after President Joe Biden announced suspending his reelection campaign on Sunday, July 21.

The President also endorsed Harris in a post on X (formerly Twitter) by writing, "My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this."

Harris, in turn, thanked Biden for his support and announced her bid for the White House, stating, "I am honored to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination."

"I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party—and unite our nation—to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda. If you’re with me, add a donation right now," she added.

'Squad' leaders endorse Kamala Harris as presidential candidate

Backing up President Joe Biden's choice on X, Rep Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-NY) wrote, "Kamala Harris will be the next President of the United States. I pledge my full support to ensure her victory in November. Now more than ever, it is crucial that our party and country swiftly unite to defeat Donald Trump and the threat to American democracy. Let’s get to work."

"This was the president’s decision to make and I’m grateful for his years of service to our country. Thrilled to support (Kamala Harris) as our Democratic nominee and remain committed to working alongside her to defeat Donald Trump in November," expressed Rep Ilhan Omar (D-Minn).

Rep Jamaal Bowman (D-NY), who recently lost his reelection bid, echoed the stance of his companions, stating, "Now that President Biden has suspended his campaign, Vice President Kamala Harris is the most qualified and best choice to lead us forward."

Rep Cori Bush (D-Mo) noted in her statement, "When we say trust Black women, we mean it. Black women are the backbone of the Democratic Party and it is past time for us to lead our country forward. Kamala Harris is more than ready to lead at this moment."

Kamala Harris mocked online as 'Squad' leaders back VP

Conservatives on X mocked Kamala Harris after the progressive "Squad" endorsed her as their presidential nominee. They claimed that the endorsement would not help to gain the support of independent voters, and may end up ensuring the victory of GOP nominee Donald Trump.

"Another strong reason not to vote for her," one person wrote on X in response to the news.

"Well that won’t help with independents," shared another.

"What an endorsement to have lol," stated a third.

"Even if I was a Democrat, I wouldn't want the 'squad' to back me in anything," jibed a fourth.

"Trump wins at this point by landslide," one individual wrote.

"Of course, they are picking a person based on race and disregarding the lack of qualifications. That's what they do," commented another.
