Ariana Grande gets teary-eyed on being presented original Glinda wand from 'The Wizard of Oz'
The 'Wizard of Oz' universe is the setting for Jon M Chu's 'Wicked', the film adaptation of the Broadway classic based on Gregory Maguire's eponymous 1995 novel which tells the origin story of the Wicked Witch of the East, the Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda the Good Witch.
Grande has been praised for her portrayal of Galinda, also known as Glinda, in the film, in which she stars alongside Cynthia Erivo, who played the Wicked Witch of the West aka Elphaba.
The 'Santa Tell Me' singer has been candid about her admiration for the original Broadway musical and has called her role in the film a dream come true.
Naturally, Grande appeared emotional when she saw the original Glinda wand from 'The Wizard of Oz' on 'The Drew Barrymore Show'.
In the clip, Barrymore told Grande that she had something "extremely exciting and special," before adding, "It was owned by the Smithsonian and now it's owned in private hands."
"Bring out the original Glinda wand, please!" said Barrymore after sharing that the prop was loaned to the show by the owners of the Glinda wand.
The pop star looked straight ahead as the wand-wielding employee approached, and her hand instantly went up to cover her mouth.
Grande gasped and sobbed as she saw the star-topped wand that Billie Burke used to play Glinda the Good Witch in 'The Wizard of Oz'. She exclaimed, "Thank you so much! Are you serious right now?"
The singer jokingly ran offstage as though she was taking the Glinda wand home with her, "Thank you, guys, it's been fun. Bye!" Grande said.
She quickly turned around again and said, "I’m kidding!" several times before settling down on the couch with the 'Charlie's Angels' star.
With tears in her eyes, Grande asked Barrymore, "How did you pull this off? Oh, my God, did you break in?"
To which, the talk show host replied, "I have to give credit to everyone on the show because literally we were so excited about you coming here. That is the original wand from The Wizard of Oz. So there you go."
Glinda's magic wand is not the only valuable prop from the beloved movie. Judy Garland's famous ruby slippers were put up for sale in November nearly 20 years after they were stolen from the Judy Garland Museum in Minnesota in 2005.
Moreover, Margaret Hamilton's pointy hat from her role as the Wicked Witch of the West is also up for auction, per People.
