LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Ariana Grande has reached an impressive milestone on the Billboard Hot 100, tying Taylor Swift for the most No 1 debuts among female artists.

In a video shared on TikTok by MTV UK on November 22, the pop sensation expressed her surprise at the achievement, acknowledging her place in music history alongside one of her idols. “Really? I didn’t know that,” she said with a look of astonishment while sitting next to her 'Wicked' co-star, Cynthia Erivo.

According to Billboard, Ariana Grande’s heartfelt reaction came after learning that she and Taylor Swift both have seven songs that debuted at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, the most for any female artist.

"That can’t be true," Grande added, further showing her surprise.

When the interviewer pointed out that Swift is the only other female artist to achieve this feat, Grande couldn’t help but express her admiration, tapping her nails and saying, "Good company!"

Erivo, who was seated next to her, nodded in agreement.

Swift reached this feat earlier this year when 'Fortnight' featuring Post Malone entered the Hot 100 at No. 1. Swift has previously achieved No. 1 debuts with hits like 'Is It Over Now?', 'Anti-Hero', 'All Too Well (10 Minute Version)', 'Willow', 'Cardigan', and 'Shake It Off'.

Grande's seventh No. 1 debut came in March with her song 'We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)' from the 'Eternal Sunshine' album, which topped the chart in its first week.

Her previous No 1 debuts include smash hits like 'Yes, And?', 'Positions', 'Rain on Me' (with Lady Gaga), 'Stuck With U' (with Justin Bieber), '7 Rings', and 'Thank U, Next'.

Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande's mutual respect for each other

Ariana Grande’s milestone ties her with Taylor Swift, but the only artist with more No 1 debuts than them is Drake, who holds the record with nine.

In total, Grande has topped the Hot 100 nine times, while Swift has reached the No 1 spot 12 times.

The MTV UK interview with Grande comes amid a significant period for both artists. On November 22, Grande’s 'Wicked' movie, in which she stars alongside Erivo, premiered in theaters after years of anticipation and promotional buildup. Meanwhile, Swift is nearing the end of her two-year Eras Tour, which wraps up in December.

Despite limited interactions over the years, both stars have maintained mutual respect. In 2014, they co-headlined the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, where Swift shared a photo of herself and Grande backstage, writing, "Oh my God, she couldn’t be cuter."

In 2019, when Swift featured a drag performer channeling Grande in her music video for 'You Need to Calm Down', Grande showed her support on Instagram Stories, jokingly thanking Swift for including her and praising the video’s empowering message.
