Pete Buttigieg slammed for dismissing Biden's old age arguing 'age of a leader's ideas' matters more
WASHINGTON, DC: Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg dismissed concerns regarding President Joe Biden's old age, citing his vigorous State of the Union address, reported the New York Post.
In an interview on ABC's 'This Week' on Sunday, March 10, the former Indiana Mayor stated, "What matters most is the age of a leader's ideas."
Buttigieg further highlighted Biden's works concerning "some of the issues that are especially important to younger generations," including LGBTQ and reproductive rights, to substantiate that the president is aligned with younger voters on key policy matters.
Questions regarding the 81-year-old incumbent's age have made many voters skeptical of his ability to carry out presidential duties following his announcement to run for a second term.
In a recent poll by the New York Times and Siena College, 73% of registered voters considered the president too old to serve for another term.
Biden is currently the oldest president the United States has ever had and will be 86 by the end of his second term if he wins in November. On the other hand, his opponent, Donald Trump, 77, will become the oldest president if he emerges victorious in the 2024 presidential race and completes the term.
Pete Buttigieg says Joe Biden showed 'strength' at SOTU address
Buttigieg defended Biden against the remarks of GOP Sen Katie Britt, who gave the rebuttal speech to the State of the Union. The Republican lawmakers called the president a "dithering and diminished leader" following his 68-minute-long joint congressional address, which was the last of his current term.
"I know those response addresses have to be written before the State of the Union is actually delivered," Buttigieg said about the criticisms against Biden's speech.
"Anybody who watched that address saw not just in the substance, but in the delivery of President Biden's remarks, a leader who is in command, showing strength and clarity of vision," he added.

Biden also joked about his age at the SOTU, saying, "I know I may not look like it, but I've been around a while." In addition, his campaign also released a multimillion-dollar ad where he directly confronted the issue. "Look, I'm not a young guy. But I understand how to get things done for the American people," he said.
