ROME, GEORGIA: Former President Donald Trump had a backtracking moment while campaigning in Georgia, a swing state in the upcoming presidential election, which President Joe Biden narrowly flipped blue in 2020.

Speaking at a 'Get Out the Vote' rally in Rome, Georgia, on Saturday, March 9, the ex-president reversed his previous remarks of the polls in the state being rigged, suddenly stating the opposite, citing his current lead, as reported by The Hill.

Trump's remarks in the Peach State hold significance because he and 18 other defendants face a federal indictment over his attempts to overturn the 2020 election result in the state.

Furthermore, the case in Fulton County has been derailed over an allegation of romance between District Attorney Fani Willis and special prosecutor Nathan Wade, who is investigating the election subversion case.

What did Trump say in the Georgia rally?

The likely Republican presidential nominee, early into his speech, asserted his success in Georgia during the 2016 campaign, boasting even greater achievements in 2020. He accused the latter of being rigged, a claim he had consistently made.

"You know, the polls are all rigged," he claimed, backtracking on it the next instant, saying, "of course, lately, they haven't been rigged because I'm winning by so much."

"Disregard that statement. I love the polls very much," Trump added.

Georgia was a critical swing state in the 2020 election, which helped Biden defeat Trump. However, the latest poll by The Hill/Decision Desk HQ shows that the ex-president has 46.1% support, whereas the incumbent has 44.6%.

Various national poll analyses by FiveThirtyEight show that either both candidates are in a neck-and-neck race or Biden is slightly behind Trump.

Trump, the only remaining GOP presidential contender after opponent Nikki Haley's exit, is close to crossing the 1215 delegates to become the presumptive Republican nominee officially.

The White House hopeful, nevertheless, did not refrain from his 2020 election claims while speaking in Georgia. Further into the speech, he slammed the "radical left" for rigging the previous presidential election, adding it cannot be repeated as the November election is set to be a Biden-Trump rematch.

He also urged the voters to support him and turn the 2024 race into a resounding victory that is "too big to rig."

Internet ridicules Donald Trump

The former president faced intense mockery from netizens who said his flip-flopping remarks were similar to a "spoiled child."

One user wrote, "He is such an ignoramus."

"Trump thinks that the definition of 'rigged' is he's not winning," another person remarked.

A third user added, "Trump’s logic is the same as that of a spoiled child: If I lose, it’s only because the game is rigged and everyone else cheated. But if I win, that means the game was fair and I won legitimately."

"Tails I win, heads you lose. Juvenile idiot," a fourth response read.

Someone else said, "This same man claimed the Emmy Awards were rigged when The Apprentice lost to Amazing Race. It's all rigged, well when I lose. Trump is the definition of a Karen."
