SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA: Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny sparked political speculation on social media during the Super Bowl LX halftime show when he took the stage in a custom off-white jersey featuring “Ocasio” and the number “64.”

While many viewers immediately linked the name "Ocasio" on his back to New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, it was actually a reference to his own legal name.

Mystery behind 'Ocasio' and '64' on Bad Bunny's jersey

While the name "Ocasio" made many people think of the famous politician, it is actually Bad Bunny's legal last name, as his full name is Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio. By wearing it, he was simply representing his family on the world’s biggest stage.

The number "64" on the jersey also had people guessing, with some thinking it was a tribute to his mother’s birth year or a reference to the 64th Congress, which gave Puerto Ricans US citizenship back in 1917. Others believed the number was a nod to the tragic history of Hurricane Maria, where 64 was the first reported death toll.

However, the most likely reason for the number is a celebration of his own success. In 2023, his album ‘Un Verano Sin Ti’ became the first Spanish-language album to be nominated for Album of the Year at the 64th Grammy Awards.

Internet explodes with massive mix-up

The moment Bad Bunny stepped into the spotlight, X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram were flooded with users, confused as well as condemning what they perceived as a bold endorsement of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

One user wrote, “Did Bad bunny come out with an Ocasio jersey? WHAT A SCUMBAG.”

“So bad bunny is wearing a white on white jersey with Ocasio on the back. Is his name Ocasio, or is that a political statement?” asked another.

One more asked, “Who is the Ocasio on Bad Bunny's jersey? AOC?”

Another remarked, "Hold the f**k up… the jersey Bad Bunny is wearing says Ocasio on the back."

“Bad Bunny wearing an Ocasio 64 jersey!!! Direct politicization of the halftime show!! F**k Bad Bunny!!! F**k AOC!!! F**k Roger Goodell!!!” a person declared.

“Bro is wearing an Ocasio jersey?  I was told it wasnt political,” another added.
