Relationship timeline of Elijah Allman and Marieangela King
Elijah and Marieangela King met in 2013 and got married in the December of that year after eloping. In February of 2014, Elijah said in an interview with the Daily Mail that he decided to elope with Mariengela.
He shared, “I wasn’t going to wait for anyone’s approval and congratulations, just like I’ve never waited for any of that my whole life. The way I eloped with my wife is the same way I’ve done everything I’ve ever done. I don’t know any other way and we knew it was the right time."
In November 2021, however, Elijah filed for divorce from his wife citing "irreconciliable differences."
In January 2024, Elijah and Marieangela filed paperwork to dismiss their divorce. Their lawyer Regina Ratner said that the duo "reconciled" and are “working on their marriage,” per Us Weekly.
Marieangela King accused Cher of hiring men to kidnap her son
In September 2023, Marieangela King accused Cher of hiring men to kidnap Elijah from their New York hotel room where the estranged couple were trying to reconcile their differences.
In the peteition, she stated, "On November 30, 2022, the night of our wedding anniversary, four people came to our hotel room and removed (Elijah) from our room," before adding, "I was told by one of the four men who took him that they were hired by (Elijah's) mother."
In the declaration, she continued, "I am currently unaware of my husband's wellbeing or whereabouts," and said that she was only aware that Elijah was under "lockdown at a treatment facility that is undisclosed to me."
She also shared that the couple were working on their marriage on the night of the kidnapping, per OK! Magazine.
In an interview to New York Post, Cher later denied the claims and said, “You never stop being a mom — you go to the end, you go to the mattresses when you’re trying to save your children. But I didn’t do it. And if I did it, I wouldn’t care to tell you."
Cher questioned King’s role in Elijah’s life while filing for a conservatorship of her son, claiming that the twosome’s “tumultuous relationship" has been marked by a cycle of drug addiction and mental health crises.
Cher filed for conservatorship of her son in December 2023
In December 2023, Cher filed for Elijah's conservatorship citing her son had become "substantially unable to manage his financial resources."
In the filing, Cher claimed, "Elijah is entitled to regular distributions from a trust established by his father for his benefit, but given his ongoing mental health and substance abuse issues, Petitioner is concerned that any funds distributed to Elijah will immediately be spent on drugs, leaving Elijah with no assets to provide for himself, and putting Elijah’s life at risk."
The Grammy-winning singer further commented, "Until recently, Elijah and Angela were estranged and their tumultuous relationship has been marked by a cycle of drug addiction and mental health crises," and noted that Marieangela "is not supportive of Elijah’s recovery and that Angela actively works to keep Elijah from getting clean and sober or receiving mental health treatment that he desperately needs."
