Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner 'confused' by daughter Violet’s viral selfie with Jennifer Lopez's sister

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner were reportedly blindsided by their daughter Violet, 18, choosing to stay close to her former step-mother Jennifer Lopez's sister, Lynda Lopez, 53.

Lynda posted a selfie with Violet on her Instagram account after visiting the campus of Yale University, where the latter is currently studying, over the weekend. She captioned the post, "New Haven with my favorite Yalie! 💙" The post has since gone viral.

According to the Daily Mail, Violet has been determined to maintain her connection with Lopez and her family even after her father's recent separation from the singer. She had reached out to Lynda to arrange the meet-up at the Ivy League institute.

Source reveals Violet Affleck's action have left her parents baffled

An insider told the publication that Violet's parents, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, were confused by their daughter's behavior, but respected her choice in matters of who she wanted to associate with.

"Violet has a strong attachment to JLo and her family," said the source. "It’s quite confusing to Ben and Jen (Garner) because they do not understand why Violet is so adamant on keeping her close. She looks up to JLo and Lynda and is intent on keeping the bond alive."

"Violet said that she just reached out to her and said she wanted to come visit," they shared about the meet-up. "The first time Ben saw this photo was online. He wasn’t aware that Lynda was visiting. But Violet is an adult, and she is allowed to do as she pleases and spend time with who she wants to," the insider added.

However, the teenager's parents were not happy with her sharing the issue with the public, as the source added, "Ben and Jen feel Lynda and Violet could have spent time together and even taken a cute photo together without it going online for the world to see."

They noted that Violet was following in the footsteps of her parents, who maintain a friendly relationship co-parenting her and her siblings, Fin, 15, and Samuel, 12.

"It is unfortunate that her dad didn't work things out with JLo, but it also didn't work out with her him and her mom, and she would rather keep the peace than have any issues. Violet doesn't want to lose that bond," stated the source.

Violet has had a close relationship with Jennifer Lopez

Violet, who started her freshman year at Yale weeks after Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from her father on August 20, had been close to the singer in the days leading up to the split. The two of them reportedly spent time together over the summer in the Hamptons.

During an outing in Brentwood, California, the teenager was also seen wearing one of Lopez's dresses. It was a pink Dolce & Gabbana gown worn by the singer on a Valentine's Day date night with Affleck in 2023.
