Ben Affleck may upset Jennifer Lopez by erasing giant back tattoo as part of 'divorce makeover': Source

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: According to insiders, Ben Affleck plans to laser off his enormous back tattoo, which is sure to enrage his ex-wife Jennifer Lopez, who pleaded with him to get rid of it when they were still married.

"It's all part of his big post-divorce makeover," a source revealed to Radar Online.

The 52-year-old Hollywood star was first spotted in 2016 with a huge, surreal tattoo of a phoenix emerging from the flames all over his back.

In an interview with 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' in April 2019, Affleck stated that the tattoo of a colorful phoenix on his back is "meaningful" to him and "represents something important."

The 'Gone Girl' actor was shot filming 'Live By Night' in December 2015, revealing the ink covering his entire back. While joking that the tattoo was only temporary for a film, Affleck came clean about the ink in an interview with Extra in March 2016.

He told DeGeneres in 2019 after the tattoo became a talking point, "I love my tattoo. I'm very happy with it. Luckily, I'm the one who has it," per People.

Affleck reportedly fought with Lopez, 55, over the unusual inking during their brief marriage because he wouldn't have it taken off to appease his demanding bride. However, an insider said he's changed his mind now that he's single and ready to socialize.

"He's scheduling sessions with tattoo removal specialists to get rid of it bit by bit. It's a huge piece so it's going to take time, but he's already had a consultation," a confidant revealed to Radar Online.

The 'Hustlers' beauty, who once publicly criticized the giant tattoo as "awful," is sure to get upset about it. "She begged him to get rid of it for so long and he wouldn't. He'd get really offended any time she brought it up," a source said.

The tipster added, "But now that he's single and having to take his shirt off for other women, he's suddenly ready to remove it. When JLo finds out, she's absolutely going to take it personally!"

The 'Air' actor-director made headlines on Valentine's Day in 2023 when his estranged wife, Jennifer Lopez, disclosed that the two of them had complimentary tattoos together.

Affleck has a well-known collection of body art. "I actually do have a number of tattoos but I try to have them in places where you don't have to do a lot of cover up — they get sort of addictive, after a while," he said to Extra in 2016.

In February 2023, Lopez revealed that she and Affleck celebrated their first Valentine's Day together by getting complementary tattoos. The 'Shotgun Wedding' actress posted pictures of their new ink on Instagram.

The names "Jennifer" and "Ben" appeared to be written in cursive on the singer's ribcage ink, which is an infinity sign with an arrow through the center of the symbol.

In contrast, Affleck's tattoo featured two arrows crossing each other. The letters "J" and "B" are positioned above and below the crossed arrows, respectively.

Affleck's left shoulder bears a massive cross tattoo. Lopez's 2002 'Jenny from the Block' music video featured him wearing a sleeveless white tank top and famously relaxing next to the singer on a yacht, marking one of the first times the tattoo was visibly noticeable.

The ink was once again displayed in 2003's romantic comedy 'Gigli'. Affleck played the title role, and Lopez played Ricki, a free-spirited gangster, per People.

Affleck has a second cross tattoo on his right shoulder, which is also visible in the previously mentioned projects, in addition to the enormous cross that is inked there.

The intricate design on his right shoulder features an angelic figure, playing cards, and a large sword pointing upward, all set against a bed of red roses. He has a barbed-wire band across his right bicep just below it.

Affleck has had a dolphin tattooed on his right hip since November 2011. He hasn't revealed a lot about this tattoo specifically, but it has been said in the past that the ink was meant to hide his high school sweetheart's name.

Affleck's right shoulder blade bears a set of initials, but it's not clear what they represent. The tattoo has an "O" and a "V," with the words "TA OR" written underneath and "MOH NON TE" above.
