Beyonce’s NFL halftime show draws 27M viewers - but it's still far less than her past Super Bowl acts
HOUSTON, TEXAS: Though Beyonce’s NFL Christmas halftime show was viewed by many, it is apparently not high enough when compared to her past Super Bowl performances.
Beyonce, 43, recently headlined the NFL Christmas halftime show during a football game between the Baltimore Ravens and the Houston Texans, on Wednesday, December 25, at NRG Stadium in Houston. The Ravens had a decisive win over the Texans. However, it was the singing diva's performance that got the Internet talking!
As the viewership numbers are in for the halftime show, it is not looking promising enough for a pop star of her stature.
Beyonce clocks in far fewer views than her previous halftime show
According to Daily Mail, around 27 million Americans tuned in to watch Beyonce perform during her halftime show, which consisted of an eight-song medley and panning over 15 minutes. The singer performed songs from her latest album 'Cowboy Carter' and even brought her daughter Blue Ivy onto the stage.
While the number is not less by any means, the ‘Crazy in Love’ singer is accustomed to clocking much bigger numbers during her halftime shows.
Previously, Beyonce amassed more than thrice of the recent viewership when she performed at the Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans alongside her Destiny's Child bandmates Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. During that time, the ‘Halo’ singer reportedly had 110.8 million fans hooked into their television sets.
In 2016, she amassed an even greater number, when she headlined Super Bowl 50 along with Coldplay in Santa Clara, California, along with other guests, including Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson. The show clocked a viewership of an impressive 115.5 million viewers.
For her Christmas halftime show performance, the Grammy winner songstress also brought in her 12-year-old daughter Blue Ivy Carter to join her as a backup dancer on stage.
The ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’ star was also joined by Post Malone and Shaboozey for her performance.
Moreover, Beyonce grabbed further eyeballs during the performance as she made a bold gesture on the field. She made a finger-gun gesture - a move that the NFL players are banned from doing on the field - when a big ‘Bang’ banner unfurled behind her on stage.
Internet tries to find out the reason behind the low numbers
The social media users were, however, not surprised as Beyonce did not click an impressive viewership during the Christmas halftime show. They took to the comments section of the Daily Mail article to express their views on the same.
One of the readers commented, "Hardly a surprise. People are so tired of her and her husband’s antics."
Someone else declared, "Her fanbase is decreasing."
"She's alienated most of the people who like Country music, so what is she doing? She is less than smart," chimed in one person.
Another noted, "It wasn’t the Super Bowl and she’s past her prime."
However, some of the users explained what they thought was the reason for decreased viewership. One individual said, "The Cowboy Carter Act is polarizing to those of us who aren't typically a Beyonce fan because a fair number of us either love or hate country music, but I'm not sure either extreme works in her favor!"
"It wasn’t the Super Bowl which is on regular TV. Not everyone has Netflix. And there was this little thing called Christmas," pointed out someone else.
Another added, "Of course she does, no one likes her anymore."
