LAS VEGAS, NEVADA: Beyonce recently added another feather to her illustrious crown after being named the Top Country Female Artist at the Billboard Music Awards held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

As the R&B/Pop star whizzed past the staple country music stars like Lainey Wilson, and Megan Moroney among others at the award ceremony held on Thursday, December 12, a section of the internet was left fuming as they urged the organizers to give the honor “to real country artists.”

Beyonce forayed into country music with 'Cowboy Carter'

The multiple Grammy winner forayed into the country genre in March 2024 with the release of her album ‘Cowboy Carter’.

The ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’ hitmaker’s journey into the country genre was an all-compassing one, as ‘Cowboy Carter’ debuted at the top of the charts. Soon, however, it fell off the charts before completely disappearing from The Billboard Top 200.

Recently, Beyonce's album reentered the Billboard charts at #195. The album received another setback after not receiving a single nomination at the Country Music Awards. Nevertheless, the ‘Crazy in Love’ singer received nominations for the Grammys, including  Best Country Album and Best Country Song, per Whiskey Riff.

However, the 43-year-old songstress received her first accolade in the Country Music genre through her win at the 2024 Billboard Music Awards.

The top honor in country music comes at the heels of Billboard naming the ‘Single Ladies’ singer the "Greatest Pop Star of the 21st Century".

Beyonce's latest win as the "Top Female Country Artist" did not sit well with several fans of the genre, who asked whether real country artists were even considered for the award. Some of them declared that the 'Halo' singer "ain't country."

One of the social media users said, "I actually don’t like this.. a country singer ft on the album would of been a better pic."

"This ain’t country," declared another disgruntled user.

Another country music aficionado chimed in, "She’s FAR from country. When country stations don’t play her TRASH that tells you all you need to know."

Someone else urged Billboard to recognize the real country artists, writing, "Let’s give this to real country artists please."

"Once again, Billboard proved they are out of touch," wrote another user, referencing the recent Billboard controversy.

Someone else confessed, "I love B but she doesn’t deserve this win."

"Were any country female artists considered?" asked another fan.

One person said, "She ain’t country," while another alleged, "Jay Z bought it."

One angry country fan slammed Billboard and asked, "Are you guys high? There are so many worthy female, actual country artists that could have been rewarded. She even said herself it wasn’t a country album."

Another remarked, " What a joke, why I didn’t watch stupid, I haven’t heard one song on the radio.."

One person said, "Both should be ashamed. Billboard for naming and Beyoncé for accepting. She is not a Country artist. She put out a half **ed country album but that does not make her a “country artist”. What a slap in the face to actual touring/singing true country artist. Pathetic."

Another added, " ANOTHER JOKE. SHE DID NOT DO WELL IN THE COUNTRY GENRE AND DID NOT BEAT THE WOMEN THAT HAVE SO MUCH LOVE AND WORK SO HARD IN THE COUNTRY MUSIC SPACE. Stop catering to these people."
