LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are facing renewed criticism over social media over their choice of a wedding venue more than a decade ago, as their legal feud with actor-director Justin Baldoni drags on for months, the Daily Mail reported on Thursday, January 30.

The Hollywood A-list couple has been in the headlines with Baldoni for months following the release of their 2024 film, 'It Ends With Us'. Lively has sued Baldoni, who directed and co-starred in the film, for harassment on set and retaliation, while the latter countered with defamation.

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds' 2012 wedding venue has dark history

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds got married in an intimate ceremony at Boone Hall Plantation & Gardens in South Carolina on September 19, 2012. While the location was featured in the 2004 romantic film, 'The Notebook', the Daily Mail stated that it was linked with the dark history of slavery in the United States.

Boone Hall is reportedly one of the oldest working plantations in the country. In the 19th century, it was owned by Henry and John Horlbeck who were in the brick business and built many public spaces in downtown Charleston.

By 1850, Boone Hall was producing 4,000,000 bricks per year using 85 slaves. The 738-acre estate was finally opened up for public tours in 1956, under the ownership of the McRae family.

The estate continues to preserve the 12 feet by 30 feet slave cabins on the property which house information about the slaves who lived there.

The celebrity couple has since regretted their choice of wedding venue, with Reynolds branding it "a giant f***ing mistake" in a 2020 interview with Fast Company. They decided to get hitched again at their New York home and went on to donate millions to the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, which fights racial injustice.

Renewed criticism of Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds' wedding venue

With netizens being invested in the legal drama unfolding between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, her wedding venue with Ryan Reynolds has been triggering fresh outrage. The following tweets demonstrate the predominant takes.

"I'll never understand why ppl defend blake lively when she literally got married on a plantation," wrote a user.

"This whole Blake lively and Ryan Reynolds thing…. Them getting married in a plantation should already tell enough about what type of people they really are," shared another.

"THE FACT THAT @blakelively & @VancityReynolds HELD THEIR WEDDING RECEPTION AT AN OLD SLAVE PLANTATION TELLS U EVERYTHING U NEED TO KNOW," echoed one user.

"Well… we never said she was a good person so what is this about? The getting married on a plantation was enough still doesn’t make her less of a victim," pointed out another.

"Blake Lively is far from perfect and I’m forever mad at her for getting married on a plantation. But that still doesn’t justify mocking the sexual harassment she received," noted someone else.
