Body language expert says Travis Kelce used 'planned avoidance' to skillfully deflect proposal questions
However, during a recent press conference in New Orleans, Travis Kelce deflected questions about whether he planned to pop the question to Taylor Swift, sparking curiosity and further speculation.
When reporters asked about the possibility of a proposal, the Chiefs tight end dodged the questions with a firm response.
"Anyone special? A Super Bowl ring? Next question," he said, trying to move on quickly. When another reporter broached the same topic, Kelce responded more assertively, saying, "Man, back to back, you guys are crazy."
The exchange quickly went viral, with a clip on X (formerly Twitter) garnering over 300,000 views at the time of writing. Fans and observers began to analyze Kelce's body language and tone, leading Nicki Swift to reach out to body language expert and behavior analyst Traci Brown for her insights.
Brown believes that Kelce was well-prepared for the questions. "My thought is that he knows exactly what he's doing here," she said, adding, "Planned avoidance."
She explained that repeating a few words and feigning confusion is a classic deception technique. "What we see here is a classic deception technique of repeating a few words and faked confusion," Brown noted.
She continued, "When you repeat the words that buys time to think about the answer. The confusion gives the impression he doesn't know more about the topic."
According to Brown, Kelce’s ultimate move of shutting down the conversation with, "Next question," was a planned strategy to avoid further inquiry.
Sources suggest Travis Kelce's proposal to Taylor Swift may be on the horizon
Despite Travis Kelce deflecting questions about a probable proposal, sources have indicated that it might not be far off, but it’s not expected to happen right away. "Taylor does feel like Travis is The One, but jumping in is not her style," an insider told Us Weekly in December 2024.
"That's just not how she does [things]. Marriage is a big deal, and she wants [it to be] forever," another source added.
The same tipster also mentioned that the couple is taking their time to enjoy each other's company.
"Taylor and Travis are eager to spend quality time together because [that's when] the little nuances about someone's personality and habits come into play. They will learn so much about each other," they shared.

Even though the proposal topic was off-limits, Kelce didn’t hesitate to share how much he admired Swift and their relationship. When asked about his plans to recruit "non-Swiftie" NFL fans, the tight end replied with a playful comment, "Who’s not a Swiftie?"
This lighthearted response was a hit with Swift’s fans, who were eager to see Kelce support his girlfriend publicly.
Fans criticize reporters for repeatedly asking Travis Kelce about his proposal plans
Fans are frustrated with reporters continually asking Travis Kelce about his relationship with Taylor Swift, especially regarding engagement plans. Many believe such questions should be off-limits during professional events like the Super Bowl.
One said, "Rediculous there is a million questions this man would happily answer about his and Taylor’s relationship but that one question should be totally off limits! Ask about the cats, their hobbies, meals shows, music anything leave the engagement/family planning between them!"
Another added, "Why do they do this every year? He will never answer. Why would he? Do they expect him to give them his proposal plan? What a waste of an opportunity to ask him other meaningful questions."
"All these reporters need to stop asking this kind of questions Even the swifties would never ask him that questions," an agitated fan wrote, with one more saying, "That is rude, WTH is that journalism.... He is playing one of the most importen game in his life, & people ask him about private stuff like that...."
"Isn't this suppose to be about football? Quit asking him about his personal life," read another comment.
"Not great to ask, but I wanna see a SB podium proposal. It would be the ultimate way to ask on a historic night!" one more mentioned.
