Body language expert contrasts Prince Harry's 'relaxed' solo look to when he is with Meghan Markle
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Prince Harry has received acclaim for starting a series of engagements as a solo agent as the Duke of Sussex reportedly showed two indications that he was feeling "relaxed" on his solo trip to New York.
Harry, 40, appeared "more relaxed" as he attended the New York Climate Week on Monday, September 23, without his wife Meghan Markle, 43, according to a body language expert.
Prince Harry reportedly exhibited 'two very distinct versions' during his solo New York trips
The Duke of Sussex was in New York City in order to assist several of his charities. The 40-year-old will next take flight to London on September 30 to attend the WellChild Awards, per Fox News.
According to body language expert Darren Stanton, Harry appeared "very relaxed and calm" during his panel discussion at an African Parks event on September 23.
"We have two very distinct versions of Harry," Darren said on behalf of Betfair Bingo.
Darren claimed that Harry displayed "real happiness" to participate in the debate and did not exhibit any signs of nervousness when he posed for photos afterward, per Daily Express.
The self-described "human lie detector" and media psychologist coach claimed that there are "very distinct versions of Harry" that are out in public.
Darren said, "When he’s on his own, he loves to attend events. In these situations, he always comes across as very relaxed and calm."
"It’s easy to see when he is not calm or relaxed, as his face goes bright red, and his cheeks flush," he added.
Darren clarified that Harry "leaned towards" other speakers while "actively listening" to his peers, indicating an "unconscious extra effort" to pay attention and pick up knowledge.
"When he was talking on the panel, he was leaning towards the person he was speaking to. Leaning towards someone or in their direction shows active listening," he remarked.
Darren further explained, "This is when we are really making an extra effort to listen and learn, Harry does this a lot. When he’s on his own, Harry generally looks more relaxed. His smiles are very genuine and authentic."
"Other gestures we may see are that he will bite his lips, wring his hands, put his hands in his jackets, and brush things off his shoulder," Darren noted.
He claimed that whereas the previous Harry "would’ve shown these sorts of signals quite often," he appeared to be "completely calm and relaxed and breathing at a good rate, which is noticeable through slight shoulder movements" during his recent solo appearance.
According to Darren, the duke's "smiles and joy" and "breathing at a good rate" — which were indicated by modest shoulder movements — were an indication of how at ease he felt in his own skin.
"The smiles and joy there show the real happiness and emotion. He looks excited to be at the event and is clearly in his element amongst this group of people," he remarked.
Prince Harry 'never truly relaxed' when accompanied by Meghan Markle
According to Darren Stanton, Harry "never truly relaxed" when Meghan was around because he often "feels more protective" of his wife.
Darren said of Harry, "He’s always on guard. He’s never truly relaxed and we don’t tend to see this level of calm," per In Touch Weekly.
"On his own, he only has to think about himself. He loves people and loves connecting. We also see the crows feet on his face when he smiles, which shows authenticity of emotion," he added.
It is common to witness the Duchess of Sussex securely holding Harry's hand or putting a gentle hand on his back to comfort him.
Body language expert Judi James previously revealed the underlying significance of the couple's seeming emphasis on making physical contact in public.
James proposed that the reason Meghan and her husband interact with each other through various tactile means is because they are compelled to signal to one another.
According to James, there is the "double clutch," in which Meghan holds her husband with both hands and may be a "gesture of possession," per Daily Mail.
Furthermore, Meghan enjoys placing her hand on Harry's knee, which James described as a "sensual" gesture and another "signal of ownership" and "physical attraction."
Judi stated that Meghan's "double clutch" gesture had and continues to have a "multi-media message purpose" when it was first used during their engagement announcement in 2017.
Moreover, Lady Victoria Hervey recently accused the former 'Suits' actress of "depriving" Harry of his freedom.
"I think she keeps him on a really tight leash. You can see it in him, he's deprived of freedom. She's sort of his therapist and his babysitter and he's very, very dependent on her," Hervey revealed on GB News.
Hervey further added of Meghan, "It's sweet in a way, but she is dominating him. He's worried about her reactions."
"I think if he doesn't do what she wants, she puts her feet down and then she probably threatens him with things about the kids or things that she'll do," she added.
