LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's long and tedious divorce battle has finally come to an end.

The 49-year-old actress filed for divorce in 2016, just two years after tying the knot with the 61-year-old actor, as per People.

On Monday, December 30, Jolie's lawyer James Simon shared, "More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr Pitt. She and the children left all of the properties they had shared with Mr Pitt, and since that time she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family."

Angelina Jolie 'trying hard to be light after a dark time'

"This is just one part of a long ongoing process that started eight years ago. Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over," James Simon added.

The court documents regarding the settlement are yet to be filed, and a judge will need to sign off on the agreement, as per the Associated Press

Meanwhile, a tipster shared that the 'Original Sin' star "doesn’t speak ill of [Pitt] publicly or privately. She’s been trying hard to be light after a dark time."

There is no confirmation yet from Pitt's side regarding the divorce settlement.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt agreed to handle their divorce privately

Angelina Jolie took the step to end her marriage with Brad Pitt in September 2016 after an alleged violent incident on a private plane involving her, her then-husband, and their six children, Maddox, 23, Pax, 21, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and 16-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.

A few months later in early 2017, the duo issued a statement, noting they will proceed with their divorce privately and will also hire a private judge to handle their case.

"The parties and their counsel have signed agreements to preserve the privacy rights of their children and family by keeping all court documents confidential and engaging a private judge to make any necessary legal decisions and to facilitate the expeditious resolution of any remaining issues," the statement read.

It added, "The parents are committed to act as a united front to effectuate recovery and reunification."

Eventually, in 2019, Jolie and Pitt were declared legally single.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt still need to resolve French winery dispute

However, the fight did not end there as they continued to lock horns over custody of their children and the $164 million French estate and winery, Chateau Miraval, which they shared.

After the 'Maria' actress sold her share of Chateau Miraval to the Tenute del Mondo wine group, Pitt sued her in February 2022, calling it a "vindictive" move.

But Jolie's former business Nouvel filed a countersuit against the 'Bullet Train’ star's legal step.

The filing claimed, as per People, "These counterclaims lay bare the true nature of Pitt's egregious misconduct. To be clear, it is Pitt, and not Jolie, Nouvel or any of the other Defendants, who has acted in a hostile, destructive, and illegal manner. Pitt's behavior has caused serious harm to Nouvel."

The case still needs to be resolved.
