Brad Pitt downplays divorce settlement with Angelina Jolie as he revels in 'fairly contained' life

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Brad Pitt has finally broken his silence after more than eight years of intense legal feud with his former wife Angelina Jolie.
The couple reached a settlement in their divorce on December 30, 2024. In a new interview, Pitt, 61, seemingly downplayed the significance of their legal battle.
Brad Pitt doesn't think divorce settlement with Angelina Jolie was a major thing
During a GQ interview on Wednesday, May 28, Brad Pitt dismissed questions about whether he felt “relief” after finalizing the divorce.
“No, I don't think it was that major of a thing. Just something coming to fruition. Legally,” the 'Fight Club' actor said.
Jolie, 49, had filed for divorce in September 2016, days after a private plane flight on which she claimed Pitt had been abusive toward her and their six children — Maddox, 23, Pax, 21, Zahara, 20, Shiloh, 19, Knox, 16, and Vivienne, 16.
No charges were filed, and Jolie declined to press charges.
Jolie’s lawyer, James Simon, at the time of the settlement, said that since filing for divorce, "she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family."
Simon added, “This is just one part of a long ongoing process that started eight years ago. Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over."
After the settlement, a source told People in March 2024 that Pitt is “happy that the divorce is behind him” and that he and girlfriend Ines de Ramon, whom he has been dating since 2022, are “in a great place.”
Brad Pitt reflects on constant media scrutiny
During the interview, Brad Pitt also reflected on the media scrutiny over his personal life, which he said has remained a headline for decades.

“It’s been in the news for 30 years, bro. Or some version of my personal life, let’s put it that way,” Pitt said.
On being asked if filming his upcoming movie 'F1' gave him a refuge from public attention, he said, "It’s been an annoyance."
Pitt added, "I’ve had to always deal with in different degrees, large and small, as I do the things I really want to do. So, it’s always been this kind of nagging time suck or waste of time, if you let it be that. I don’t know. I don’t know."
Brad Pitt feels ‘fairly contained’ in life with loved ones
Despite the legal battles and media focus, Brad Pitt revealed he feels grounded in his personal circle.
“Mostly I feel pretty… My life is fairly contained,” he said. “It feels pretty warm and secure with my friends, with my loves, with my fam, with my knowledge of who I am, that, you know, it’s like this fly buzzing around a little bit.”

In the past, Pitt accused Jolie in 2022 of violating “contractual rights” when she sold her half of their Chateau Miraval winery without his knowledge.
Jolie’s lawyers countered that Pitt’s legal team had demanded she sign a nondisclosure agreement before allowing her to sell her share, which would have stopped her from speaking about Pitt’s alleged abuse of her and their children.
The legal battle over the ownership of the $500 million French property between Pitt and Jolie is ongoing.
