Bradley Cooper gets candid about fatherhood, admits he initially failed to connect to his daughter
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Bradley Cooper has added many feathers to his cap over the years but the most loved and treasured one is fatherhood.
The actor is a proud father of a six-year-old daughter, Lea De Seine Shayk Cooper, whom he shares with his ex-partner, Irina Shayk.
Bradley Cooper initially was not a typical father
However, the start of Cooper and Lea’s relationship was not a conventional one as the 49-year-old disclosed on Dax Shepard’s ‘Armchair Expert’ podcast.
He shared, as reported by Page Six, “The first eight months — I don’t even know if I really love the kid.”
The ‘Maestro’ star further explained, “It’s dope. It’s cool. I’m watching this thing morph. That’s my experience.”
“Fascinated by it. Loved taking care of it. But would I die if someone came in with a gun?” he remarked, before noting, “And then all of a sudden, it’s like no question.”
The filmmaker also mentioned he’s trying to be a good human being “to do the least amount of damage that [he] could do to [his] daughter.”
Bradley Cooper now loves being a father
He reportedly said on the podcast, “I’m not sure I’d be alive if I wasn’t a dad. I just needed someone to say, like, ‘We’re gonna drop this massive anchor'.”
The ‘A Star is Born’ actor continued, “I’m like, ‘Why? We’re speeding! I just got an upgrade on the boat, and I know where the wind’s coming in'. They’re like, ‘No, no, no, there’s a tsunami coming in, and you need an anchor and we’re gonna drop it'.”
“Because this is gonna dictate everything you do from now on. Your DNA is going to tell you that there’s something more important than you,” Cooper added.
Bradley Cooper donned several roles for ‘Maestro’
Meanwhile, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter Cooper spoke about the time when he worked as director, producer, and co-writer of the ‘Maestro’ apart from being the actor as well.
When asked if he faced any issues, he revealed, “Not entirely — it at all feels like one thing to me. Maybe it’s because I make my bed every morning. I’m definitely somebody who plans and likes to make plans, so maybe I’m built for being a producer.”
“And really, I learned a lot from Kristie Macosko Krieger, an incredible producer on this movie, along with Fred [Berner] and Amy [Durning], too. But Kristie was really the one in the trenches every day. It’s so hard to make a movie. And I just love the process of an idea evolving into a finished product,” Cooper asserted.
