Britney Spears and Sam Asghari ‘on the verge of settling’ divorce after he filed for it 6 months ago
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Britney Spears and her soon-to-be ex-husband, Sam Asghari, are close to reaching a divorce settlement.
The pop icon and the actor have been working on their divorce for six months after Asghari filed for it in August 2023.
Financial disclosures reveal progress means the divorce is in the final stage
TMZ reported that Asghari’s team submitted his financial documents to Spears’ lawyers, which showed that they are "on the verge of settling."
The documents included "the declaration of income and expenses among the required paperwork as well as a list of assets and separate and community properties."
The outlet noted that "filing financial disclosures is often the last step taken in a divorce that suggests all parties are coming to an agreement."
In California, where the couple resides, sharing financial information with your spouse is mandatory for getting a divorce or legal separation.
Britney Spears was paying Sam Asghari’s rent
The 29-year-old Asghari had been reportedly living in a luxury apartment in Los Angeles which Spears paid around $10,000 per month. The November 2023, report also mentioned that they had a "cordial" relationship.
Spears has been using divorce lawyer Laura Wasserman to represent her and Asghari. They stopped talking to each other early in their divorce process and only communicated through their attorneys, according to Us Weekly.
Sam Asghari was reportedly planning to contest prenup
Asghari was initially rumored to be planning to contest the prenuptial agreement that he and Spears signed before their wedding.
He was also speculated to be considering spilling the beans about his marriage to the 'Toxic' singer who had been under conservatorship.
However, the latest development in their divorce seems to have calmed him down. The pair, who cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for their divorce, met in October 2016 on the set of Spears’ music video for Slumber Party.
They tied the knot in a private ceremony in Las Vegas after a whirlwind romance.
Spears praised Asghari in her 2023 memoir 'The Woman in Me' calling him "a gift from God." She wrote, "I have an appreciation for how stable he is. I love that he doesn’t even drink."
She also revealed that she ‘knew’ she wanted him in her "life immediately" and that they had ‘insane’ chemistry. "We couldn’t keep our hands off each other," she recalled.
