Britney Spears skips niece Maddie’s graduation as Jamie Lynn Spears reunites with family
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Singer Britney Spears was notably absent from a rare Spears family reunion held to celebrate her niece Maddie Aldridge’s high school graduation, which was attended by several family members including her parents, sister, and eldest son.
The family gathering came after Spears was released from a rehabilitation facility following a voluntary nearly three-week stay for substance abuse treatment that ended on April 29, amid recent legal troubles and continued tensions within her family.

According to photos obtained by the Daily Mail, Aldridge, the 17-year-old daughter of Jamie Lynn Spears, celebrated her graduation surrounded by family members. Her father, Jamie Spears, attended the ceremony in a gray suit while using a wheelchair following the amputation of his right leg in 2023 due to an infection.
His granddaughter Ivey Watson reportedly pushed him through the crowd during the event. Britney’s mother, Lynne Spears, attended wearing a cream-colored dress and blazer. Jamie Lynn was photographed becoming emotional during the ceremony as she watched her daughter receive her diploma.
She wore a black mini dress with white puff sleeves and was reportedly seen crying with joy during parts of the event. Earlier in the week, she had also shared social media posts expressing emotions ahead of Maddie’s graduation.
Britney’s eldest son, Sean Preston Federline, also attended the graduation. The 20-year-old, whom she shares with ex-husband Kevin Federline, was seen holding up a photo of his cousin during the commencement exercises.
The graduation celebration came weeks after members of Spears’ family were reportedly among the first to reach out following her March DUI arrest, with family sources claiming that her mother called her soon after learning about the incident, by which time the singer had already been released from custody.
Britney Spears faces legal troubles amid ongoing family tensions
Spears’ absence from the family event comes shortly after developments in her DUI case stemming from her March 4 arrest. Earlier this month, the singer pleaded guilty to a reduced “wet reckless” charge, which is commonly offered in first-time or lower-severity DUI cases.
Britney’s attorney, Michael Goldstein, stated that she had “accepted responsibility for her conduct” and had taken “significant steps to implement positive change.” As part of the plea agreement, she received one year of informal probation and was ordered to attend a three-month alcohol education program.
Prosecutors had initially filed a misdemeanor DUI charge against the singer on April 30. Reports also stated that Britney voluntarily checked herself into a treatment facility on April 12 to focus on her mental health and recovery.
Sources later told Page Six that she was “doing really well” after completing rehab on April 29.
The reunion also renewed attention on Britney’s strained relationships with parts of her family following the end of her conservatorship in 2021.
Reports indicated that her relationship with her father remains deeply fractured, with one source claiming there is “long-term hatred and loathing” connected to the conservatorship. Britney’s relationship with her mother has also reportedly remained “very fragile.”
However, reports suggested that Britney and Jamie Lynn have recently been improving their relationship, while Britney also remains close with her brother, Bryan Spears.
