Brittney Griner blasted for allegedly calling Caitlin Clark ‘trash and f*****g White girl’ in viral clip

COLLEGE PARK, GEORGIA: Olympic gold medalist and Atlanta Dream center Brittney Griner fouled out during a close game against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever — but it wasn’t just the score that had fans talking.
In a now-viral clip, Griner was caught on camera allegedly mouthing the words “trash” and “f*****g White girl” in Clark’s direction as she made her exit from the court.

Brittney Griner's behavior toward Caitlin Clark catches attention
It reportedly happened in the final stretch of the Fever’s 81-76 win over the Dream. Brittney Griner, who had only racked up 5 points before fouling out with a little over three minutes left in the fourth quarter, seemed visibly frustrated.
Cameras locked onto her just as she appeared to mutter the aforementioned words toward Clark, Mediaite reported.
Former NCAA swimmer and conservative commentator Riley Gaines posted the clip on X and wrote, “Brittney Griner appeared to call Caitlin Clark ‘trash’ and a ‘f*****g White girl’ after fouling out last night. Just a reminder: this is who we traded for the Russian Merchant of Death. Now imagine if Clark had said the inverse.”
Internet divided over Brittney Griner's comments
The backlash was almost instant. Critics felt there was a glaring double standard in play.
"If Caitlin Clark said 'f*****g Black girl' the WNBA would hold a candlelight vigil and ESPN would cover it for 7 days straight. But this? Not a word," one posted on X.
"Just proves that some Blacks are racists and for the WNBA to allow this crap will not end well for the WNBA as people will start tuning out," another insisted.
"We traded a war criminal for a race-baiting, anti-American athlete who hates the country that freed her. If Caitlin Clark said half of that, the media would torch her career by sunrise," a comment read.
"White girl that seems to be better than you! Idk why this has to be a race thing. Everything’s about race and gender now. EVERYTHING," another fumed.

But not everyone bought into the narrative that Griner was spewing racially charged comments.
"This ain’t actually what happened! Yikes!" a person remarked.
"I don't think that's what she's saying. She said 'whack calls' Brittany Griner is not racist. She's besties with Maga Barbie!" another pointed out.
"Pretty sure people are just creating outrage now because it looks like she says 'trash….wack call' after a foul call on her against a diff player," someone else offered.
"I hate Griner and I’m 100% MAGA, but to be fair, I don’t think that’s what she said. I wouldn’t put it past her to say something like that, but let’s not start an issue where there isn’t. Takes away from the real issues," another chimed in.

Brittney Griner’s past comments and prisoner exchange resurface
This isn’t the first time Brittney Griner has raised eyebrows over her opinions on Caitlin Clark’s impact in the WNBA. Last year, Griner appeared to throw shade at fans Clark was bringing into the league, suggesting that some of them came with baggage.
“I don’t appreciate the new fans that sit there and yell racial slurs at myself, my teammates, and the people that I play against because, yeah, those are my best opponents, but those are friends too,” Griner said at the time.

It's worth noting that Clark — the No 1 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft — didn’t exactly light up the scoreboard that night but still made her presence known with 11 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists, going 4-of-12 from the field. The win was a sweet comeback for the Fever after a 91-90 loss to Atlanta two nights earlier.
Clark is currently leading all rookies in both points and assists per game.

Griner, meanwhile, returned to the league last season after a headline-grabbing stint in a Russian prison. She was famously freed in a controversial prisoner exchange between the US and Russia, where President Joe Biden traded her for notorious arms dealer Viktor Bout, dubbed the “Merchant of Death”.
