Brooke Mueller reveals spending 'millions' to get sober amid questioning in Matthew Perry death probe
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Brooke Mueller, the ex-wife of Charlie Sheen, has opened up about her sobriety in a rare interview with the 'Hollywood Raw' podcast, marking her first public conversation in 15 years.
The 47-year-old actress revealed that she has been sober for nearly nine months, sharing the challenges and triumphs of her recovery journey, as reported by PEOPLE.
Brooke Mueller marks 9 months of sobriety
During the interview with hosts Dax Holt and Adam Glyn, Mueller candidly discussed the difficulties of overcoming addiction. “It’s been hard,” she admitted, adding, “And a lot of people at my level of addiction don't make it. In fact, most people don't. I worked really hard. It has not been easy. I am sober. I do work a program. I do believe in the Twelve Steps.”
Mueller shared that a key factor in maintaining her sobriety has been the strong support system she has around her.
“I have a fantastic sober community here in Malibu of some great women, and set meetings that I go to,” she said, adding, “And to answer your question, I have nine months sober. Well, next week will be nine months.”
Mueller revealed the financial toll her battle with addiction has taken over the years, noting that she has attended 30 rehabs, beginning at the age of 19. “It’s in the millions,” she said, explaining that she initially believed expensive treatment centers were the key to sobriety.
“Do you want to know how much it cost me since my first rehab at 19 or 20, to my 30th rehab at 47?” she asked Holt and Glyn. “It's in the millions.”
“And it's no exaggeration because unfortunately, I thought you had to go to these rehabs that cost anywhere from $75k to $140k a month to get sober,” Mueller said.
“And in fact, this last time I went to an insurance-only place, and they did not cater to me. They did not enable me. They did not care who I could have been or anything like that.”
“So what was fantastic about that experience is, it was real, it was raw, and it woke me up. It really did,” Mueller concluded.
Brooke Mueller's connection to Matthew Perry investigation
Mueller also made headlines recently due to her connection with the late 'Friends' actor Matthew Perry. Perry, who died in October 2023, was found to have died from "acute effects of ketamine." A source confirmed that Mueller had been questioned in relation to Perry’s death due to their past friendship, but emphasized that she never used ketamine.
Brooke Mueller was reportedly involved in the police investigation leading to charges against five individuals connected to Matthew Perry's tragic overdose.
People reports that Dr. Salvador Plasencia, Dr. Mark Chavez, Perry's live-in personal assistant Kenneth Iwamasa, and Hollywood's 'Ketamine Queen' Jasveen Sangha were among the five people charged in connection with the actor's death on August 15.
TMZ reports that Mueller contributed to the police investigation into Perry's death in October 2023, owing to her associations with Sangha, 41, and Erik Fleming, 54.
Mueller and Perry met 20 years ago, reconnecting in rehab several years later. Despite being questioned, a source clarified, "Brooke Mueller was questioned in this case because she was friends with Matthew Perry but she never used ketamine."

My dad was an alcoholic for years which then turned into Alzheimer’s, but it’s such a nasty disease that turns great people into sad people." Another added, "Wow, what an amazing accomplishment. I would like to be sarcastic here but I know better than to try and understand the grips of addiction: it’s horrible."
Not all reactions were positive, however. Some users expressed doubts or concerns, with one comment stating, "I mean good for her but she's a has-been who should just focus on staying clean."
Another added, "I swear there were rumblings that she's connected to Matthew Perry's death. I haven't seen her in the news in years so this announcement seems peculiar..."
Despite the mixed reactions, many expressed their support for Mueller's recovery journey. "Good for her!" and "Congratulations" were common sentiments among those who praised her achievement.
