TYLER, TEXAS: Patrick Mahomes Sr, the father of Kansas City Chiefs' superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes, and a former MLB pitcher found himself in the spotlight lately for all the wrong reasons.

Arrested in Tyler, Texas, on a DWI charge for the third time, Mahomes Sr's legal troubles unfolded just eight days before his son is set to take the field in Super Bowl 2024 against the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas on February 11, as reported by New York Post.

Patrick Mahomes Sr was arrested for DWI for the sixth time

Mahomes Sr, 53, was booked into Smith County Jail on Saturday, February 3, on a charge of DWI with a prior conviction, according to jail records. This marks at least the third time the elder Mahomes has been arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.

Back in 2018, Mahomes Sr was arrested for his second DWI offense. He pleaded guilty and served a 45-day jail sentence on weekends in 2019 and 2020.

Mahomes Sr was a pitcher in Major League Baseball for 11 seasons, including stints with the Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates. He last pitched in the majors in 2003.

The former big league hurler has been a visible presence supporting his son during the Chiefs' playoff run this season. Mahomes Sr was notably present at last year's Super Bowl in Glendale, Arizona when the Chiefs secured victory against the Philadelphia Eagles. On that occasion, he celebrated with a cigar, later stating he was smoking "Philly blunts."

This isn't the first time a member of the Mahomes family has stirred up controversy due to a brush with the law. Last year, Mahomes' younger brother Jackson was accused of sexually assaulting a restaurant manager but eventually had felony charges dropped, according to legal records.
