Celine Dion honors late husband Rene Angelil on his 83rd birthday: 'We celebrate you always'

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Celine Dion marked what would have been her late husband Rene Angelil’s 83rd birthday with an emotional tribute shared on Instagram.

Angelil, who died in 2016 after a long battle with throat cancer, was not only Dion’s husband of 22 years but also her former manager and greatest supporter.

Celine Dion's tribute to Rene Angelil

On January 17, Celine Dion posted a black-and-white photograph of  Rene Angelil alongside a touching caption reflecting the deep bond they shared.

“Today is your birthday, but the date doesn’t matter because there isn’t a day that we aren’t celebrating life with you,” she wrote.

“While going through all the years of pictures and videos that consistently keep you alive, we hear your voice, we see your gestures, and we adore your spirit,” Dion continued.

“We celebrate you always. Happy Birthday Rene, Notre Amour,” she concluded the post.

The post was signed, “Celine, RC, Nelson and Eddy xx,” referring to herself and the three children she had with Angelil, Rene-Charles, 23, and 14-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy.

Celine Dion's tribute to mark Rene Angelil's death anniversary

Just two days earlier, on January 14, Celine Dion shared another moving post to commemorate the ninth anniversary of Rene Angelil’s death.

She posted a family photograph of herself with their children dressed in coordinating neutral tones, sitting together in an outdoor setting adorned with festive decor.

“Rene, we can’t believe you’ve been gone nine years already,” she wrote.

“Not a day goes by that we don’t feel your presence, RC, Eddy, Nelson, and I,” she added.

She described Angelil as her “greatest champion, partner, and the one who always saw the best in me,” concluding with, “You are forever missed, mon amour. We love you.”

Inside Celine Dion and Rene Angelil's relationship

Celine Dion and Rene Angelil met when Dion was just 12 years old, and Angelil, a music producer and manager helped her launch her legendary career.

Their professional relationship evolved into a romance when Dion was 19, though they kept it private for years.

Angelil proposed in 1993, and the couple married in a lavish ceremony in 1994, according to People.

During their marriage, Dion took extended breaks from her career to care for Angelil as he battled cancer on three separate occasions.

Celine Dion’s health struggles and triumphant return

In the years since Rene Angelil’s death, Celine Dion has faced challenges. In December 2022, she revealed that she had been diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome, a rare and debilitating neurological disorder that causes severe muscle spasms.

Despite these difficulties, Dion made an inspiring return to the stage in 2024, performing at the Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony.
