LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Charlamagne tha God recently weighed in on the Super Bowl LIX halftime show controversy, particularly regarding Jay-Z and Roc Nation's decision to feature Kendrick Lamar over Lil Wayne.

Instead of joining the chorus of critics, Charlamagne is applauding the choice and highlighting a different aspect of the event: Taylor Swift's absence.

Charlamagne tha God defends Roc Nation's choice of Kendrick Lamar, Celebrates Absence of Taylor Swift

During a recent segment on 'The Breakfast Club' podcast, Charlamagne tha God argued that rather than criticizing Roc Nation for selecting Kendrick Lamar people should celebrate the fact that Taylor Swift was not part of the lineup.

"Taylor's omission was cause to celebrate—good times, c'mon!" exclaimed the radio host, underscoring his support for the decision.

The debate over Lamar's selection, which some, including rapper Master P and podcaster DJ Akademiks, have criticized, revolves around the choice of an artist with no local ties.

Super Bowl LIX is set to be played at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana in February 2025.

However, Charlamagne focused on the broader picture, appreciating Roc Nation's commitment to showcasing Hip Hop and R&B artists. He pointed out that the choice of performers in recent years has predominantly featured Black artists, reflecting a concerted push to highlight these genres.

Guest host Loren LoRosa offered a contrary view, suggesting that Swift might have been a significant addition to the NFL halftime show.

LoRosa's opinion, likened to an outrageous take on the 'Swift-Tea' podcast, was dismissed by Charlamagne, who remained steadfast in his support of the current direction.

He further remarked, "For the last four or five years, I bet you they’ve been trying to push Taylor Swift down our throats, and Roc Nation said no. We’re going Black—back to Black, back to Black, every year for the last five years."

Charlamagne tha God reflects on past Super Bowl halftime shows

Charlamagne tha God referenced past Super Bowl halftime shows, mentioning other prominent artists such as The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye), Usher, and Rihanna, and hinted that Taylor Swift might eventually get her turn.

Despite this, he expressed satisfaction with the current trend of featuring Black artists.

He remarked, "All of y'all upset just remember one thing that we all can collectively be happy about is a culture—let's just be happy we didn't get Taylor Swift. Thank you for blocking Taylor Swift once again. She's been once again every year; it's going to happen."

Charlamagne’s remarks also included a comment on recent criticisms by a Black woman who claimed she stood on the shoulders of the pop star. The radio host's reaction was blunt, "Wow, I said we no ain’t no," reflecting his strong feelings about the issue.
