NEW YORK: Singer Charli XCX clarified that her 'Kamala IS brat' X post in July was not for her political endorsement of the Democratic Presidential nominee Kamala Harris but it only meant 'something positive and lighthearted.'

The reference was to the title of XCX’s new album and a 'messy-on-purpose' lifestyle she has described as someone who can be highly luxurious at times, or pretty casual at others, per the Daily Beast.

Charli XCX reveals reason for her 'Kamala IS brat' post

Charli XCX informed Vulture that the X post was meant to be something 'positive and lighthearted' rather than a strict political endorsement. She said, "To be on the right side of democracy, the right side of women’s rights, is hugely important to me."

She added, "I’m happy to help prevent democracy from failing forever. I obviously knew what I was doing."



 

She further said, "Did I think me talking about being a mess b***h and, like partying and needing a Bic lighter and a pack of Marlboro Lights would end up on CNN? No."

She went on to say that she has not aspired to be "a political artist."

I’m not Bob Dylan and I’ve never pretended to be. My music is not political. Everything I do in my life feeds back into my art. Everything I say, wear, think, enjoy — it all funnels back into my art. Politics doesn’t feed my art."

Charli also mentioned that she is already working on another 'full-length other project' that will be 'in the bratosphere, so to speak.'

Kamala Harris gets endorsement from famous celebs

Many celebrities have supported and endorsed Kamala Harris for the November election. Pop star Ariana Grande showed her support for the Democratic nominee by resharing a post on her Instagram story where President Joe Biden endorsed Kamala Harris.

Similarly, singer Katy Perry also supported Harris by sharing a fan edit of the Vice President with the singer's 2024 single 'Woman’s World' on her Instagram Story.

Talk show host Oprah Winfrey also praised Kamala Harris during her Democratic National Convention (DNC) speech last week where she said, "What we’re going to do is elect Kamala Harris as the next President of the United States. We are beyond ridiculous tweets and lies and foolery."

She added, "When a house is on fire, we don’t ask about the homeowner’s race or religion. We don’t wonder who their partner is, or how they voted. No, we just try to do the best we can to save them. And if the place happens to belong to a childless cat lady, well, we try to get that cat out too."

Several internet users trolled XCX as she clarified that her 'Kamala IS brat' X post was not for her political endorsement of Kamala Harris but only meant 'something positive and lighthearted.'

A user wrote on X, "She should worry about democracy in her own country," while one added, "Define democracy. It seems to just be a vestigial term for the left now."



 



 

A person also stated, "Ask her to define democracy without using her phone to look it up and then I’ll care," whereas one mentioned, "Wait, isn’t she from the UK?"



 



 

A user also wrote, "Does she know the sitting president was removed via coup?" while one commented, "Oh charli u need to stop commenting on politics bc this is getting embarrassing."
