CLEVELAND, OHIO: Cher, who was inducted into the 2024 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, lightheartedly compared her induction to her personal life, joking that going through two divorces was “easier” than achieving this milestone.

For context, Cher was married to Sonny Bono from 1964 to 1974, and together they welcomed one child, Chaz Bono.

Her second marriage was to Allman Brothers singer Gregg Allman, whom she wed in 1975 and divorced in 1979, with one child, Elijah Blue, born during their marriage. Currently, Cher is reportedly dating Alexander Edwards, a relationship that began in 2022.

Cher shares heartfelt speech at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

Zendaya warmly welcomed the 'Goddess of Pop' onstage with heartfelt words about the legend.

Zendaya remarked, "She has navigated a multitude of musical genres, defined new ones and reinvented others. Her music touches your heart, your spirit, makes you dance, makes you rock, and has stood the test of time."

When Cher took the stage, she humorously stated, "It was easier getting divorced from two men than it was getting into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame."

She also expressed her gratitude for her late mother, Georgia Holt, sharing, "You know, if you’re down and you’re out, you get up again. And in my life, I’ve been so down. As my mother would say, ‘lower than a snake’s belly'. That’s how down I’ve been. People have told me that I was finished, that I was through, that I have 10 minutes. The one thing that I think I got from my mom is I never gave up."

Cher acknowledged her struggles, admitting, "Honestly, I believe what my mom said, but I’m lucky. I’ve had really bad things happen. I was dropped by four labels. When it was completely over, I did ‘Believe,’ and it was like, ‘Yes!’ I’ve just been really lucky, and I have had number ones for seven decades, which surprises me, because I’m a good singer. I’m not a great singer."

Cher then delivered a powerful message to all women: "You guys are on your own. We’ve been down and out, and we keep striving, and we keep going, and we keep building, and we are somebody. We are special. As my mom would say, ‘We’re special'."

Internet comments after Cher's induction into Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

After hearing Cher's speech and induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, many internet users quickly took to social media to comment on her induction and her experiences with two divorces.

One user said, “Should've been inducted into the rock hall of fame a loooooooong time ago.” Another user wrote, “So Vile. She'd be NO ONE if it hadn't been for Sonny. She's a talent for sure, but Sonny helped put her on the map. She could at least pretend to be more grateful”

Someone else wrote, “Good to get in before she leaves the country when Trump gets elected in a few weeks.”

“Engaging Entertainer ... but doesn't have a clue as to how grateful she should be having lived her entire life in America the Beautiful," stated another.

One added, “It should not be easy for groupies to get into the rock and roll hall of fame,” and another user declared, “Cher is deplorable.”
