Cher on her upcoming album and getting older

Speaking about her next album, which will be her first album with original songs since 2013, Cher hinted at stepping back from her glamorous career.

The award-winning songstress shared with the crowd, "This is probably my last album that I'm gonna do."

"I'm really excited," gushed the 'Strong Enough' singer, before adding, "They are great songs and I'm just really excited that I'm doing it." She announced at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival that she is working on a new album with her boyfriend, Alexander "AE" Edwards

Cher, who made her singing debut when she was just 19, then joked that she was glad even to get work at her age. She quipped, "I'm older than dirt now, OK? I'm the oldest person I meet in almost every room unless I'm in an old folks' home."

The 'Believe' singer further shared that following her long career, she has now started giving life advice to younger women to get "over" themselves.

"I keep having to tell these [younger] girls like, 'Get over yourself, get out there. You’ve got your whole life ahead of you,'" shared the 'I Found Someone' singer.

Admitting that she misses being 60, she said, "I don’t care if you’re 50. I’d give anything to be 60 again. I was a f***ing hottie!" "It’s weird too because I know I’m older, but I don’t know how to feel it," confessed Cher, before adding, "I don’t know how to feel any different than the way I’ve always felt."

She explained that she enjoys spending time with younger people as she claimed her contemporaries don’t want to have that much enjoyment.

"I like young people because a lot of my friends don't want to have that much fun. They can just go off and be old fogies," stated Cher.

Cher was shocked to discover her legal name after a birth certificate error

Cher’s recent announcement regarding her retirement plans came on the heels of the publication of the first installment of her highly anticipated memoir, 'Cher: The Memoir, Part One'.

In the book, she revealed that she was shocked upon learning that her birth certificate did not contain the name her mother originally gave her as a baby.

The musician who was born Cherilyn Sarkisian, wrote in her memoir, "I believed Cherilyn was my name until the day years later when I decided to legally change my name to simply Cher."

She shared that she was shocked to discover that her first name was registered as Cheryl instead of Cherilyn when she requested a copy of her birth certificate in 1979.

Per People, her mother, Georgia Holt, gave birth to Cher from "long, unmedicated labor" in 1946 when she was just 19.

Cher wrote, "She was exhausted by the time I arrived at around 7.30 am on Monday, May 20. A nurse came to her mother's room while she was recovering and inquired about the name she intended to give her baby."

"My mother had no idea, but the woman insisted so she replied, 'Well, Lana Turner's my favorite actress and her little girl's called Cheryl. My mother's name is Lynda, so how about Cherilyn?'" added the ‘Dark Lady’ singer.

However, her name was mistakenly registered as Cheryl on the birth certificate.

Upon discovering the mistake, Cher asked her mother, "Do you even know my real name, Mom?" Her mother took the document and glanced at it smilingly before telling Cher, "I was only a teenager, and I was in a lot of pain. Give me a break."
