Chloe Bailey reveals Beyonce’s ‘no-scroll’ advice helped shape her career
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Singer and songwriter Chloe Bailey has opened up about Beyonce's guidance that helped shape her career while reflecting on the emotional toll of the backlash her younger sister Halle Bailey faced over her casting in 'The Little Mermaid.'
Speaking to Variety in an interview published on Friday, June 26, she discussed Halle’s experience with racist criticism before the film’s release, the advice music icon shared with them both, and how the sisters have supported each other throughout their careers in the entertainment industry.
Chloe Bailey reflects on Halle Bailey’s resilience and Beyonce’s career-changing advice
When asked whether it was difficult to watch Halle face racial discrimination after being cast as Ariel in 'The Little Mermaid,' Chloe admitted the experience was “of course. Absolutely. It broke my heart."
She further said, "Seeing her put so much hard work and time into an iconic role, I just wanted people to see how incredible she was in it, because this was all happening before the movie even came out.” Despite the criticism, she praised her younger sister’s strength, adding, “But my sister is resilient and I’m happy she proved all the naysayers wrong.”
The conversation then shifted to Beyonce, who discovered Chloe and Halle and later signed them to her label. She described herself as a lifelong fan, recalling that she first met her when she was four years old on the set of 'The Fighting Temptations.'
Chloe continued, “She had such a pure spirit that my 4-year-old self clung to. Being able to study her performances and being a true BeyHive fan and then being able to be signed to her and actually have intellectual conversations with her about life, the industry and music is something I’ve never taken for granted. I really appreciate her ear.”
She also revealed one of the earliest lessons Beyonce shared with the duo, “One of the first pieces of advice she gave us was the ‘no scroll’ rule: don’t read the comments, don’t read what people are saying and don’t even let it fill your head up.”

Asked whether Beyonce had guided her on handling the media, she said, “She’s mastered that and I love that about her. To get in her mind about it you’d have to ask her, but just from observing her as a fan, she has made it into her own lane."
She continued, "She’s the reason that music comes out on Fridays now. When you have talent like that, you can make whatever rules you want and break whatever rules you want. She’s earned it.” Chloe also confirmed that she and Halle plan to reunite musically, stressing that the duo had never actually split.
“Yeah! Well, the band never broke up! We just had different endeavors happening at different times,” she said, adding, “I’m so proud of her and I know she’s proud of me. We’ve both been strengthening who we are as individuals, so when the music comes back as a duo it’ll be even better. We’ve strengthened the two halves of the heart.”
Looking back on growing up in the spotlight, Chloe credited their close relationship for helping them navigate the pressures of being child stars. “Well, we had each other. We were never going through anything alone. We would act together, sing together and were each other’s best friends,” she said.
She explained that having someone who understood every experience was “a saving grace,” adding that she always felt protective of her younger sister.
