Chris Wallace rips Dennis Quaid for backing Trump, says Reagan would have been 'appalled' by ex-president
WASHINGTON, DC: CNN's Chris Wallace questioned 'Reagan' actor Dennis Quaid about his support for former president Donald Trump, noting how the present-day Republican Party differed from late president Ronald Reagan's classic conservative approach.
Wallace interviewed Quaid in his latest episode of Max series 'Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace,' telling the actor that the GOP icon "would have been appalled" by the Republican presidential nominee, as per Mediaite.
The CNN anchor claimed "there would be no room for Ronald Reagan in Donald Trump's Republican Party," prompting Quaid to respond, "Well, I really don't agree with that, in a sense."
The 70-year-old actor brought into life the role of the 40th president in the Cold War-era biopic 'Reagan' directed by Sean McNamara.

Calling Reagan "a man of his times," Quaid claimed that Trump was also the same.
"But I do feel that the principles of Ronald Reagan and the principles of Donald J Trump are very similar," the actor added.
Wallace retorted by emphasizing how the two Republican presidents had different strategies for matters, from foreign relations to international trade and general approaches to others.
"Reagan confronted the Russians. He talked, and you in the movie talk, about an evil empire," Wallace noted. "Trump doesn't do that."
The CNN host further highlighted, "Reagan supported free trade. Trump imposes tariffs. And Reagan’s 11th commandment was thou shall not speak ill of another Republican."
"I gotta say, I think Reagan would have been appalled by Trump’s behavior," Wallace asserted.
In response, Quaid attempted to draw similarities between the Reagan era and the current political situation in the US. He claimed that the Republican Party and the former president were getting along at present in "Trump 2.0." He drew another parallel with Trump's agenda, saying that Reagan was also "America first."
Quaid insisted that the issues surrounding the 1980 election were similar to the current situation, like high inflation, gas prices, and hostages in the Middle East.
"We were told that we were a nation in decline and felt that malaise that Jimmy Carter himself said and very similar issues to what is going on today," the actor added.
During an interview on 'Piers Morgan Uncensored' in May, Quaid endorsed the MAGA spearhead, saying he was "my a*****e."
Internet split over Chris Wallace's remark to Dennis Quaid
Netizens held differing opinions as Wallace confronted Quaid, saying Reagan 'would have been appalled' by Trump. While some claimed the CNN host was right, another group slammed him.
"Bush, Romney, McCain, Cheney...even Reagan's children ....you can go on and on with the list of Reagan republicans who don't support Trump, but somehow people still think Reagan would support him.... The world these people live in is unbelievable," a user said.
While another remarked, "Reagan would have been appalled by Chris Wallace's behavior."

"Chris is 100 percent correct. You could disagree with his politics as many did. But he was not a pathological liar and he had a moral compass. Trump does not," someone else chimed in.
"Chris Wallace doesn’t even like Reagan, what would he know…" an individual opined.

On the other hand, one remark read, "Someone should tell Chris Wallace he's stuck in the 80s."
