In an interview with Sky Sports, Kaepernick shared his unwavering commitment to returning to the field, stating, “We’re still training and still pushing, hopefully we just got to get one of these team owners to open up.”

He added, “It’s something I’ve trained my whole life for, so to be able to step back on the field, I think that would be a major moment, a major accomplishment for me. I think I could bring a lot to a team and help them win a championship.”

Kaepernick's absence from the NFL began in 2016, when he claimed he was blackballed by the league due to his political activism, notably his decision to kneel during the national anthem in protest of racial injustice. Since then, he has continued to train and stay in shape, hoping for another opportunity to play.

In 2022, Kaepernick worked out for the Las Vegas Raiders at the urging of team owner Mark Davis, but the tryout did not lead to a contract. More recently, following Aaron Rodgers’ injury last year, Kaepernick wrote a letter to New York Jets General Manager Joe Douglas, requesting a tryout, but his offer was turned down.

Colin Kaepernick supports claims of Roger Goodell’s hypocrisy following Harrison Butker's speech

Colin Kaepernick recently weighed in on the backlash surrounding Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker's controversial speech at Benedictine College.

Butker's remarks, which touched on sensitive topics such as abortion, IVF, and the LGBTQ+ community, sparked a wave of criticism, with many accusing NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell of hypocrisy in his handling of the situation.

Kaepernick, who has been outspoken about social justice issues and his own experiences with the NFL, shared his thoughts via Instagram.

He reposted stories that highlighted Goodell's perceived double standard, drawing parallels between the league's response to Butker's speech and Kaepernick's own activism, particularly his decision to kneel during the national anthem in protest of racial injustice.

The conversation surrounding Butker's speech also caught the attention of actress Whoopi Goldberg, who addressed the controversy on her show.

Goldberg compared the situation to Kaepernick's protests, stating, "These are his beliefs and he’s welcome to them. I don’t have to accept them. In the same way, we want respect when Colin Kaepernick takes a knee, we want to give respect to people whose ideas are different from ours. I’m OK with him saying whatever he said."

Amid the ongoing debate, rumors have surfaced that Kaepernick might be in talks for a potential coaching role with Jim Harbaugh and the Los Angeles Chargers. Harbaugh, who coached Kaepernick during his time with the San Francisco 49ers, could be considering bringing the former quarterback on board in a coaching capacity.
