WASHINGTON, DC: Former race car driver Danica Patrick earned the ire of her fans as she opened about turning Republican from being an independent in a recent interview with MAGA enthusiast and fellow athlete Riley Gaines, The Spun reported on Sunday, March 9.

The 42-year-old reportedly did not vote until 2024 and was known to be leaning toward left on many issues. However, she backed President Donald Trump in the last general election, claiming that she was finally "red-pilled."

"It's finally cool to be conservative again," she shared. "And we have to thank all the people in the movement, all the Democrats that became Republicans... because it is finally okay to speak your mind, and speak rationality into people again, and at least just what you believe."

Danica Patrick's take on becoming conservative

Patrick told Gaines that becoming a conservative "felt like a calling" for her, "because it's been a tidal wave of change in what you do and how people see you."

"Standing up for something is a powerful thing because it's when you're in your truth," she continued. "When you're in your truth, you're quite magnetic. It gains momentum really fast because when we're doing what's meant for us, the universe just lines things up for us."

The NASCAR and IndyCar star recalled going to her first-ever political event, AmFest in Phoenix, in 2024, where she met conservative commentators such as Charlie Kirk.

"After going to that event, I posted some photos of my sister and I. It said, 'I love this country.' That was a divisive comment to so many, which was ridiculous," she continued.

"I then met Tucker Carlson and went on his show in the beginning of January. I came back from Florida, and Charlie reached out to go on his show. I was like, 'Well, I guess I'm in politics now.'"

Internet disagrees with Danica Patrick

Patrick was slammed on Facebook for claiming that being conservative was the new "cool." The following comments demonstrate the prevalent opinion among netizens.

"It's definitely not cool to be conservative. In fact, it probably is the most cringe thing one can do," wrote a person.

"I think there is a big difference in being conservative vs what we have now in the White House. The real Republicans are rolling over in their graves," shared another.

"She can't be serious," jibed a third.

"Cool and rational? Then why are these people so angry and hostile all the time?" stated a fourth.

"Reality is not part of her resume," chided a fifth.

"No, it isn’t cool. Supporting a President that is driving our country off of a cliff is not cool," slammed a sixth.

"She's beyond delusional," mocked yet another.
