David and Victoria Beckham find Tom Cruise 'little weird' as he tries to control 'every social situation'

MIAMI, FLORIDA: Tom Cruise has apparently been pretty relentless in his attempts to rekindle his friendship with Victoria and David Beckham.

With the 'Mission Impossible' star planning to spend more time in Florida — where he has a penthouse in Clearwater — he’s set his sights on reconnecting with the famous Brits. But it seems like David and Victoria are not exactly rolling out the red carpet.

Tom Cruise and the Beckhams go way back. When David and Victoria first moved to Los Angeles in 2007 for the former's gig with the LA Galaxy, Cruise was there to help them adjust to the Hollywood lifestyle.

“Tom did everything for them when they first moved to LA. He practically gave them the keys to the city," one insider told the Daily Mirror. "He threw them a party to meet everyone important, and the moment they were established they chucked him!”

Back then, the three of them, plus Cruise’s then-wife Katie Holmes, were practically inseparable, showing up at all the big events together.

Fast forward to today, and things have definitely cooled off. Cruise’s enthusiasm to rekindle their friendship now feels like it’s bordering on excessive. “Tom is going to be spending more time in Florida and is hitting up the Beckhams,” an insider dished to InTouch Weekly.

But despite his enthusiasm, the Beckhams are keeping their distance. Why? Apparently, they find him “a little weird.” According to the source, “He has to control every social situation, and they’re not into that!”

Even though Cruise has been persistent—he’s been “bombarding them and saying he can’t wait to hang out,” according to the insider—the Beckhams aren’t shutting him down completely, but they’re definitely not reciprocating his excitement.

“They aren’t blowing him off completely,” the source explained. “They’ve responded once or twice but they’re not committing to anything.”

The history between them probably adds another layer of awkwardness. When the Beckhams tried reaching out to Tom Cruise back in August last year, they reportedly didn’t get the warmest welcome.

It seems Cruise was still holding onto a bit of a grudge, feeling like they owe him for all the help he gave them when they first moved to LA. For Cruise, it’s personal—he thought they’d do more to foster their friendship after all he’d done for them.

It’s not just Cruise’s intense personality that’s giving the Beckhams pause; his ties to Scientology are also part of the reason they’re keeping him at arm’s length. Rumor has it that Cruise tried really hard to introduce them to the Church of Scientology, which wasn’t exactly the vibe the Beckhams were going for.

A source told Radar Online that Cruise was quite insistent about the pair learning more about Scientology and that reportedly pushed David and Victoria to start distancing themselves from him.

Even though they’re not entirely dismissing Cruise (he did make it to Victoria Beckham’s 50th birthday bash in April), they’re definitely keeping him at a distance. It seems like they’re happy with the occasional nod to their old friendship but aren’t eager to rekindle it completely.

Tom Cruise, however, doesn’t seem to be letting go. He’s still hoping to reconnect, possibly hoping they’ll come around — especially with him spending more time stateside. But it’s hard to shake the feeling that he’s a little bitter about how things ended.

One insider spilled to The Mirror last year, “He’s still angry and has no intention of being friends again. David and Victoria tested the waters a while ago, but Tom ignored them — so it makes sense they haven’t invited him to anything. Tom clearly thinks they should have tried harder.”

Victoria even tried reaching out to Cruise to mend fences recently, especially after hearing he had written a personal letter to actor Timothee Chalamet. But so far, any moves toward reconciling have been rather one-sided. It’s obvious Cruise still has some mixed feelings and isn’t letting go of that grudge entirely.

Right now, it seems like the Beckhams are happy with a little distance between them and Cruise. Sure, they’ve left the door open and there might be an occasional get-together, but it’s nothing like the tight-knit bond they used to share.
