David Beckham recalls 'love at first sight' with Victoria as he calls wife 'gift that keeps on giving'

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: David Beckham has reminisced about the moment he first met his wife Victoria in 1997, describing it as a turning point in his life.

Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE at Stella Artois' Let's Do Dinner event in New York City on September 19, Beckham, 49, affirmed that it was indeed "love at first sight."

He recalled how Victoria, 50, captivated him instantly, noting her charm, beauty, and status as a Spice Girl.

“Absolutely,” Beckham said when asked about that initial connection. He added, “Well, of course. She was a Spice Girl and sexy and beautiful and charming. Then I found out what a strong woman she is. So it’s again the gift that kept on giving.”

The couple wed on July 4, 1999, and are parents to four children: Brooklyn, 25, Romeo, 22, Cruz, 19, and Harper, 13. Their paths first crossed at a Manchester United match, where Beckham played at the time.

In a lighter moment, Beckham also shared his recent adventures in farming, humorously noting, “My wife gets a lot of content out of the chickens,” while revealing that they had unfortunately lost one of the pets. “I’m down a chicken. The others are doing great. I’m sure you’re going to be seeing a lot more content,” he said.

At a Bowers & Wilkins event in New York City on August 27, he continued to celebrate Victoria, crediting her with inspiring his fashion choices. “She always gave me that confidence, and she still does now, even after 27 years. She still gives me that confidence that, you know, wanting to look good and wanting to feel good,” he stated.

Beckham added, “I like to think I do” influence her style, but he acknowledged, “To be honest, she always looks good. It’s a good problem, but it’s a problem. She always looks great. So it’s a pretty easy job for me.”

“Whenever I put something on, I know from her reaction whether I need to take it off or whether I need to keep it on,” he shared.

To mark their recent 25th wedding anniversary, the couple delighted fans by recreating their wedding day looks for a special Instagram post, with Beckham jokingly captioning it, “Look what we found… 😅💜.”
