LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: DC Universe has a new Superman but everyone is not convinced.

On Monday, June 24, the first picture from the set of the upcoming Superman movie went viral where David Corenswet is seen as the caped superhero for the first time.

Corenswet, who took up the role of the Kryptonian superhero following the exit of Henry Cavill as Superman, looked gripping as he donned the iconic blue and red suit of Superman complete with the red cape, per Daily Mail.

David Corenswet replaces Henry Cavill as Superman

Earlier this year, it was revealed that the 30-year-old actor who previously appeared in the 2022 Netflix film ‘Look Both Ways’, had been roped in to play the superhero.

On May 6, the first look of the actor, who also appeared in projects like ‘Hollywood’ and ‘The Politician’, was released by DC.

But on Monday, the first look of the young actor as the caped superhero emerged from the sets of the upcoming installment of the movie directed by James Gunn. The movie, titled ‘Superman: Legacy’, will be releasing on July 11, 2025.

Apart from Corenswet, Rachel Broshanan has been signed to play Lois Lane, replacing Amy Adams.

Internet is left divided regarding the 'Superman'

The latest teaser-poster for the upcoming Superman film has divided fans. While a section of fans agreed that Corenswet's Superman looked promising, another section still wanted to have Henry Cavill back as the Kryptonian superhero.

One social media users said, "Superman has not had a good live action movie in 44 years. Time to end this streak. I hope this movie is spectacular."

"This suit looks good, incredibly comic accurate but the MCU lines gotta go," said someone else.

Another fan added, "It kinda looks ugly. i hope it looks better on cgi."

"Already can see how bad this movie is gonna suck. Should have stuck with Henry…," said another fan.

Someone else, meanwhile, chimed in, "I think it’s way better than Henry’s. It looks more like the classic suit, whereas Cavill’s looked like an edgy suit, something that Zack Snyder would- oh yeah…"

Another fan, however, defended the movie and called out the critics, saying, "I don't know WHAT some of y'all snobby armchair movie critics are saying.....THE SUIT LOOKS GREAT, BETTER THAN CAVILS I THINK."

"Ummm idk about this. Maybe this just a rough draft suit idk. I think they should do better than this. I want Henry Cavill back. This suit don't look good I'm sorry," said a fan while making a case for Henry Cavill.

"Superman doesn’t put on his boots. He just goes into a phone booth and come out," quipped another fan.

Another disenchanted fan, meanwhile, slammed, "This suit disgusts me. you would never be henry cavill 🤦🏾‍♂️."

"I have mixed feelings about it but mostly good! can't wait to see it better in more detail when standing maybe," said someone else.

Another passionate fan said, "Give me Henry or give me death."

A DC fan, however, cheered in support of the film, saying, "Bring it!!!! Loved what Snyder did and I look forward to the new chapter with David and Gunn . This toxicity is crazy, I was iffy about Battinsons first look as Batman but the suit has grown on me over time. People need to give this a chance."

"Like how he’s putting his boots on. Big boots to fill in indeed," put another fan regarding the poster that was shared in May.

Someone else added, "Looking forward to it. David Corenswet has big shoes to fill as Henry Cavill was born to play Superman."

"He does not look so superman😢, bring back Henry Cavill," declared another fan.

Henry Cavill’s exit shocked fans

The casting of the film took place before the SAG-AFTRA strike last year. In the end, Corenswet won the race over British actors Tom Brittney and Nicholas Hoult.

In January, DC bosses Gunn and Safran defended their decision to bring a new face as Superman as the upcoming storyline will require Superman to undergo a mental battle between his Kryptonian heritage and human upbringing.

In January 2024, they said, “We didn't fire Henry. Henry was never cast,” after Cavill, 40, announced his exit from the franchise in December.

He shared then, “I have just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran and it's sad news, everyone. I will, after all, not be returning as Superman,” before adding, “After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn't the easiest, but that's life.”

“The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that. James and Peter have a universe to build,” added the ‘Enola Holmes’ star.

He continued, “I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and happiest of fortunes.”

Cavill remembered “those who have been by my side through the years,” and added, “we can mourn for a bit.”

“But then we must remember.... Superman is still around. Everything he stands for still exists, and the examples he sets for us are still there!” said the actor.

He concluded, “Everything he stands for still exists, and the examples he sets for us are still there! My turn to wear the cape has passed, but what Superman stands for never will. It's been a fun ride with you all, onwards and upwards!”
