WASHINGTON, DC: David Letterman heaped praise on Seth Meyers after the late-night host became the latest focus of Donald Trump, hailing the situation as "delightful".

The late-night legend, Letterman, voiced his strong approval of Meyers after President Donald Trump lashed out at the host.

Letterman, speaking on 'The Barbara Gaines Show,' opened with "Shout out to our friend Seth Meyers" and said he was "just delighted" that "the president of the United States now wants to fire Seth Meyers," adding, "How do you think that's going to go? So anyway, I've never been more proud of Seth Meyers."

It may be noted that Meyers follows Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert as late-night hosts who have drawn Trump's public fury.

Letterman had earlier defended both Kimmel and Colbert and was equally supportive of Meyers. He further added, “But just remember, Seth, things happen. You know what I’m saying?”

Trump's social media posts questioned Seth Meyers' legality and talent

Trump reacted on Truth Social after Meyers' comments that "If anyone dares to say anything less than glowing, Trump loses his s**t."

The president referred to Meyers as "Marble Mouth Meyers" back in January and added that he "may be the least talented person to 'perform' live in the history of television… In fact, he may be the WORST to perform, live or otherwise." He went on to question why NBC would employ him: "Why does NBC waste its time and money on a guy like this???"

Trump capped the tirade by questioning the legality of Meyers' material, writing, "NO TALENT, NO RATINGS, 100% ANTI TRUMP, WHICH IS PROBABLY ILLEGAL!!!"

David Letterman calls Donald Trump a 'wonder of idiocy'

Seth Meyers fired back after Trump's online meltdown, changing the topic to governmental issues: “What we should be talking about instead is the government shutdown you’re not solving or the food assistance you refuse to fund. Working families are struggling while you renovate your bathroom and you build your ballroom, and that’s why your approval ratings are in the toilet.”

Letterman, who has his own history of sparring with Trump, including calling him a "big tubby goofball", expressed pride that the late-night hosts of this generation are standing up to the administration.

He referred to Trump as "just a wonder of idiocy. It's just fantastic. It knows no bounds. And it's never-ending. He's our dictator. He's not going anywhere."

Letterman finished off by invoking Trump's “Quiet, piggy” remark to a reporter, saying, “It’s like 18 times the worst behavior anyone has witnessed, ever, anywhere. And everyone seems fine. Think of the worst thing that you’ve ever seen humans accomplish. This is so much worse.”
