Demi Moore reflects on ‘overwhelming’ wedding to Bruce Willis that 'ended in a dramatic fight'

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA: In a candid reflection, Demi Moore opened up about her whirlwind wedding to Bruce Willis, describing the experience as “overwhelming." The 'Blind' actress admitted that the couple's big day ended with a "dramatic fight" due to family drama.
Moore recalled that Willis popped the question in November 1987 while they were in Las Vegas. Initially, she thought he was joking, but the 'Die Hard' star was serious.
Demi Moore and Bruce Willis’ Las Vegas wedding
In true Hollywood fashion, the former couple spontaneously tied the knot at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas. They welcomed their oldest daughter, Rumer, in August 1988, followed by Scout in July 1991 and Tallulah in February 1994.
But in June 1998, fans were shocked to learn Moore and Willis chose to separate and end their marriage.

However, a quick Vegas wedding wasn’t enough. Moore revealed in her 2019 memoir 'Inside Out' that they planned a “real wedding” just a month later.
With Willis on the brink of superstardom, the couple secured a soundstage at Warner Bros. for their ceremony—complete with a staircase borrowed from 'Designing Woman'.

For the reception, another soundstage was transformed into the Copacabana, setting the stage for a glamorous night. But behind the scenes, things were far from perfect, The Mirror reported.
A wedding night call from the police
While the couple had hoped for a beautiful celebration, Demi Moore admitted that family tensions marred the occasion.
She wrote, "It should have been a blast, one of the great, shining days of my life. But in truth, it was overwhelming."
“Both of Bruce's parents came—the first time they'd been in the same room since they’d divorced,” she shared, adding that her own family, including her aunt, uncle, grandmother, and mother, also attended.

Moore’s mother Virginia—known as Ginny—was living with the couple at the time, but her behavior quickly became an issue.
On their wedding night, Moore received a shocking phone call.
"I honestly can't recall the details—there were so many incidents like this they all blur in together in my memory—but suffice to say that Ginny was wasted and managed to start a fight with the neighbors, a fight dramatic enough to require the cops to intervene,” she revealed.

“I was furious at her for failing, just this once, to hold it together for my sake," Moore revealed.
Despite the chaos, Willis quickly understood the dynamic. “He grasped the deal with my mother immediately,” the actress shared, adding that he recognized the importance of setting boundaries.
Demi Moore stood by ex Bruce Willis amid dementia diagnosis
Though their marriage ended in 2000, Demi Moore and Bruce Willis remained close friends as they co-parented their three daughters.
Their bond has endured, especially in recent years as Willis battles dementia. Moore has been actively supporting his current wife, Emma Heming Willis, as they navigate his declining health.
In 2022, it was announced that the legendary actor would be retiring due to his diagnosis.
“As a result of this and with much consideration, Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him,” Rumer Willis wrote at the time, The New York Times reported.
“We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him,” the statement continued.
While standing by her ex-husband and his family, Moore continues to thrive professionally.
She has been nominated for Best Actress at the Oscars for her role in 'The Substance' after her major wins at the Golden Globe Awards and SAG Awards.
