LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Demi Moore, the iconic actress known for her fearless roles and groundbreaking career, recently opened up about the painful memories of being told by producers to “lose weight" that led her down a path of eating disorder.

In an emotional interview with Elle Magazine, the 62-year-old recalled the “embarrassing” encounter, sharing how a producer “pulled [her] aside,” pressuring her to lose weight on multiple occasions.

Demi Moore recalls years of 'torture' fueled by obsession with body image

Demi Moore's experience reportedly affected her, sparking years of what she described as “torture” rooted in self-judgment.

“It moved me to a place of such harshness against myself,” she said. “I placed almost all the value of who I was on my body being a certain way.”

As per Daily Mail, the actress, who rose to stardom in the 1980s and 1990s, recounted how this pressure to maintain a certain appearance consumed her for five years.

Her “obsession” with working out overtook her life, affecting both her mental health and sense of self-worth.

This internal struggle is something Moore has bravely discussed before, notably in her 2019 memoir, 'Inside Out'.

In the memoir, she shared an “epiphany” she had in 1997, realizing she needed to embrace her natural self rather than meet others’ standards.

Notably, in September 2024, Moore also recalled the intense workout routine she imposed on herself after the birth of her second daughter Scout Willis in 1991. However, this self-doubt extended beyond weight pressures.

Demi Moore opens up on Hollywood's age bias

Demi Moore explained how Hollywood’s narrow view of female actors added to her sense of not fitting in.

“I wasn’t 20 or 30, but I wasn’t what they imagined 40 or 50 was either,” she revealed, noting how industry leaders often didn’t know where she “fit.”

This age-related gap only intensified her struggles with self-image and casting opportunities.

Despite these challenges, Moore allegedly found healing and reclaimed control over her insecurities.

She expressed gratitude for her continued career, acknowledging how rare it is to sustain a long-lasting presence in Hollywood.

“I’m amazed that I still get to do this,” she said, adding,  "I am still amazed that this is where my life has taken me."

Demi Moore refuses to cut her boldest scene in 'The Substance'

Demi Moore’s latest film, 'The Substance,' saw her breaking her own rules by appearing in a bold scene—a choice that initially left her uncomfortable when she watched the footage in postproduction.

However, she decided not to request any edits, feeling that the scene served a bigger purpose than her personal discomfort.

“It’s like, ugh, it bugs the s**t out of me,”* she admitted, further noting, “I didn’t ask for any adjustments because I knew it was in service of something that was more important than me."

This choice reflects her desire to spark a conversation around the expectations placed on older women in Hollywood.

“'It felt like any hardship, any exposure of my own insecurities, would be worth it if I was part of bringing forward the conversation," she said.

According to Cinemablend, speaking at the French Cinematheque about 'The Substance', she said, "What moved me was the harshness that we can have against ourselves. That violence that we can have against ourselves, which I felt had never really been explored. That felt risky, scary. Personally, it certainly pushed me out of my comfort zone."

Known for pushing boundaries, Moore has previously appeared in bold scenes—from love scenes in 'About Last Night' (1986) with Rob Lowe to bold scenes in Indecent 'Proposal' (1993) and 'Striptease' (1996).
