‘Dune: Messiah’ confirmed to be in development, fans declare it ‘greatest trilogy of all time’
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In a thrilling revelation for sci-fi fans and cinema enthusiasts alike, Legendary Entertainment has officially confirmed the development of 'Dune: Messiah,' the highly anticipated third installment in Denis Villeneuve's critically acclaimed 'Dune' film franchise.
The announcement comes on the heels of the success of 'Dune: Part Two,' which hit theaters earlier this year and captivated audiences worldwide with its breathtaking visuals and compelling storytelling.
Denis Villeneuve's 'Dune: Messiah' will adapt Frank Herbert's 1969 novel of same name
According to Entertainment Weekly, Villeneuve is already deep in talks with Legendary to return as the director for 'Dune: Messiah,' which will adapt Frank Herbert's 1969 novel of the same name.
Villeneuve, whose previous two 'Dune' films received critical acclaim and box office success, has long expressed his desire to bring the entire saga to the big screen.
"I've always envisioned this as a trilogy. 'Dune' is a vast and intricate universe, and to do it justice, we need at least three films. Adapting Paul Atreides' full arc would be a dream come true," Villeneuve shared in a past interview with Entertainment Weekly.
'Dune: Messiah' begins a few years after events of the first novel
For those unfamiliar with the source material, 'Dune Messiah' begins a few years after the events of the first novel, with Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet) firmly established as the Emperor of the Known Universe.
However, his reign is threatened by a shadowy conspiracy that seeks to undermine his power and unleash chaos across the galaxy.
The story introduces new factions, such as the Tleilaxu, a group of advanced biologists who have mastered cloning technology and utilize shape-shifting spies known as Face Dancers.
Additionally, fans can expect to witness Villeneuve's take on the Spacing Guild Navigators, mutated beings who use the spice melange to navigate interstellar routes.
'Dune: Messiah' also guarantees more substantial roles for characters introduced in the previous films, including Paul's sister Alia (Anya Taylor-Joy) and Princess Irulan (Florence Pugh).
Villeneuve has expressed his excitement at the prospect of collaborating further with these talented actresses, stating, "They give me chills and the will to do another one."
