NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg recently found himself at the center of online outrage as he proudly announced the conviction of former President Donald Trump on 34 counts of falsifying business records.

Bragg, the first prosecutor to ever bring an American president to trial, stood before reporters and boasted about his high-profile achievement, exuding confidence and satisfaction, as reported by New York Post.

Alvin Bragg's remarks after verdict

Speaking on Thursday, May 30, Bragg stated, "I did my job," as he stood with his team who prosecuted the case. Trump was found guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records in connection with a hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Despite being pressed on whether he would seek jail time for Trump, who faces up to four years in prison for each charge, Bragg remained non-committal. At the very least, the former president could be sentenced to probation.

"This type of white-collar prosecution is core to what we do at the Manhattan District Attorney’s office," Bragg explained, expressing gratitude to the "12 everyday New Yorkers" on the jury for their careful and attentive service.

When asked about Trump’s accusations that the case was politically motivated to hinder his 2024 presidential bid, Bragg declined to comment directly.

He instead emphasized the impartiality of the process, saying, "While this defendant may be unlike any other in American history, we arrived at this trial and ultimately this verdict in the same manner as every other case that comes through the courtroom doors — by following the facts, and the law, and doing so without fear or favor."

Trump’s conviction stemmed from falsifying business records related to a payment made to Daniels through his former attorney Michael Cohen, who served as the prosecution’s key witness. The hush money was paid in the run-up to the 2016 election to prevent Daniels from publicizing an affair with Trump.

This unprecedented case was initiated by Bragg in April 2023, building upon investigations started by his predecessor, Cyrus Vance Jr. Under Bragg’s leadership, the Manhattan District Attorney’s office had previously secured a conviction against the Trump Organization for a 15-year tax fraud scheme.
