BOZEMAN, MONTANA: Donald Trump blasted Sen Jon Tester (D-MT) for his track record in Congress on issues like the southern border during a campaign event in Montana on Friday, August 9.

The former president referred to Tester as a "radical left lunatic" while addressing a large gathering of his ardent supporters in Bozeman.

At the rally, Donald Trump said, "For years, Tester has been telling Montana that he’s a moderate while he votes with [President] Biden, [Vice President] Harris and [Senators] Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren."

The 78-year-MAGA strongman asserted that Tester had voted in favor of "mass amnesty" while opposing the construction of a border wall and the "Remain in Mexico" policy that mandates asylum seekers to wait in Mexico for their cases to be processed.

Trump also claimed that the senator had supported legislation that contributed to inflation and implied that he had voted against the Keystone XL Pipeline, according to The Hill.

Moreover, the GOP presidential nominee commented on Tester's physical appearance, remarking that "he’s got the biggest stomach I have ever seen."

Republican candidate looking to unseat Sen Jon Tester calls him a 'rubber stamp for the Biden-Harris agenda'

The Bozeman rally took place with less than three months to go before the November election, as Republicans strive to unseat Sen Jon Tester, who is seeking a fourth term.

He is a prime target for the GOP as one of two Senate Democrats representing states that Trump won decisively in 2020 and who are up for reelection.

This issue holds a special significance for Sen Steve Daines (R-MT), who also serves as the chairman of the Senate GOP campaign arm, as he is hoping for another Republican senator from Montana.

In the upcoming November election, Republican candidate Tim Sheehy is running against Senator Tester, and both Sheehy and Daines made appearances at the Trump rally on Friday.

In preparation for a competitive reelection campaign, Sen Tester has been running advertisements focusing on issues such as border security while also maintaining some distance from the current Democratic administration.

One of Tester's ads earlier this year featured a narrator saying, "When Montanans see a problem, we get to work. Jon Tester worked with Republicans fighting to shut down the border, target fentanyl traffickers, and add hundreds of new Border Patrol agents."

The ad also mentioned that Tester opposed President Joe Biden's policy of allowing migrants to stay in America instead of remaining in Mexico.

He has urged Biden to take more action at the southern border, stating in a letter to the president in February, "I respectfully urge you to use all of the remaining tools at your disposal to strengthen border security where executive action is possible."

Tester’s stance on the border issue is nuanced. He supported a bill this year that would detain immigrants who have illegally entered the country and committed certain crimes.

In a 2019 interview with WBUR, he suggested that while "there are some places where a wall does make sense, a wall from sea to shining sea is not the right direction to go."

Tester also had a confrontational back-and-forth with Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas earlier this year, emphasizing that "the fact is the border needs to be fixed, and we need to step up as Congress, the administration needs to step up, you need to step up."

In 2022, the Montana Democrat voted with his party on Biden’s significant health care and climate package, but he also supported an amendment in 2021 that was later removed from a Covid-19 relief package. The amendment would have permitted the Keystone XL pipeline to be approved by Congress.

Daines criticized Democrats who had originally supported the pipeline but changed their stance when they voted for the relief package without the amendment. Both Daines and Sheehy delivered speeches at Trump’s rally in Bozeman.

Sheehy called Tester a "rubber stamp for the Biden-Harris agenda every single time it matters" and accused him of lacking "the courage to say, 'I’m going to vote against these terrible policies that are bad for Montanans.'"

Daines addressed the attendees, stating, "The nation is watching Montana. They are counting on us 88 days away in this most consequential election. If we are going to take this country back, we must elect President Trump, and we must elect Tim Sheehy to support President Trump back in Washington."

An aggregate of Montana surveys gathered by Decision Desk HQ indicates that Sheehy is leading Tester by 49 percent to 45 percent. The nonpartisan election analyst Cook Political Report has classified the seat as a "toss-up."

Internet mocks Donald Trump for name-calling Sen Jon Tester during his Montana campaign rally

Netizens ridiculed Donald Trump for his remarks regarding Sen Jon Tester during his Bozeman, Montana rally.

One remarked, "Tester is a centrist. Trump tries to paint everybody as a commie, it's so tired and old. Just like him."

"Trump calls every Democrat a radical left lunatic, yawn. It's the same-o same-o boring stump speech. His schtick is old," remarked a person.

Someone else noted, "So old. So tired. So boring. He’s a broken record repeating the same played-out crap, and the only people falling for it anymore are the crazies in his cult. The country will be so much better off when he’s in jail or forgotten."

"The only lunatic here seems to be trump. Someone come get grandpa," stated one more, with another person saying, "Name calling is all the @GOP have left. Make Republicans Weak Again."
