EAST RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSEY: Chelsea outclassed Paris Saint-Germain to claim the Club World Cup title, only to take home a replica of the gold-plated trophy, as Donald Trump gets to keep the original one.
The 79-year-old president recently revealed that his friend and FIFA president Gianni Infantino has let him keep the tournament’s ornate 24-karat gold-plated trophy as an ornament in the Oval Office.

Why did FIFA let Donald Trump keep the trophy in the Oval Office?
On Sunday, June 13, Donald Trump got a chance to witness the high-tension FIFA Club World Cup final at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium, where he was joined by first lady Melania Trump, Attorney General Pam Bondi, as well as NFL legend Tom Brady, and media mogul Rupert Murdoch.
Just before the final kickstarted, Trump told broadcaster DAZN that he was gifted the trophy, which was unveiled before him by Infantino during an Oval Office meeting in March this year.

“They [FIFA] said: ‘Could you hold this trophy for a little while?’ We put it in the Oval Office and then I said: ‘When are you going to pick up the trophy’, and [FIFA President Gianni Infantino] said: ‘We’re never going to pick it up, you can have it forever in the Oval Office,’” Trump explained.
The president then went on to confirm that Chelsea received a replica of the original for winning the tournament.
“And they actually made a new one [for Chelsea], but right now [the original] is in the Oval,” he said.

Designed in partnership with Tiffany & Co, the trophy boasts a 24-carat gold-plated finish and a striking design: a central disc surrounded by three spinning outer rings. Its creation is estimated to have cost around $230,000.
Donald Trump gatecrashed Chelsea’s trophy celebration
Donald Trump not only kept the original Club World Cup trophy, but he also gatecrashed Chelsea’s celebration.
The president was seen joining Infantino in awarding the trophy to Chelsea, who shocked European champions PSG to win the final 3-0.
Infantino moved out of the frame of television cameras, while Trump remained still, putting himself fully in focus as Chelsea captain Reece James lifted the trophy and his teammates celebrated around him.

Notably, the Athletic also reported that Infantino kept a medal aside for Trump, handing it to him after the trophy-lifting ceremony. However, it is still unclear if he kept the medal just like the original trophy.
The tournament final was undoubtedly an event of cheers and jeers for Trump, who was rained with boos as the jumbotron showed him saluting from his midfield luxury box as the National Anthem played before the match.
At the final, he even joked about signing an executive order mandating the US to call soccer “football” in line with the rest of the world.

“I think we could do that,” he told DAZN as a reporter proposed issuing a new executive order that would formally rename soccer as "football" in the US.
He claimed that he was thrilled to see soccer in the US flourish and that he hoped it would soon catch up to the other nations in the world rankings.
“[The US] is doing very well on the other stage, on the political stage, on the financial stage. I was just in Saudi Arabia, I was in Qatar, I was in the UAE. Here we have Qatar, you know, the big presence they have, but you have all of the leaders, and then you look at NATO, all of the leaders said ‘a year ago your country was dead, and now you have the hottest country in the world,'” Trump told the outlet.
