Trump ridiculed for canceling interview with military reporter after inquiring about questions in advance
CHESAPEAKE, VIRGINIA: Donald Trump recently canceled a scheduled interview with military reporter Mike Gooding, drawing widespread backlash and mockery.
The cancellation came after the former president's campaign team inquired about the questions that would be asked during the interview, as per Mediaite.
Donald Trump's campaign cancels interview with Mike Gooding saying he only wanted to talk about the debate
Trump held a rally in Chesapeake, Virginia, on Friday, June 28, the day after his CNN debate with President Joe Biden.
During the debate, the presumptive GOP nominee apparently made numerous false statements, which the moderators failed to correct.
Moreover, Biden confronted Trump regarding the alleged "suckers" and "losers" comments he made about World War I veterans during his visit to Frace's Aisne-Marne American Cemetery. The contentious remarks were supposedly corroborated by then-President Trump’s Chief of Staff, John F Kelly.
Military correspondent Gooding from ABC affiliate WVEC’s 13News Now was set to interview the former president following the Chesapeake rally. The interview was even promoted on the channel on Friday morning.
However, as reported by 13News Now’s Preston Steger and Alex Littlehales, Trump’s campaign canceled the interview abruptly after asking for the questions in advance.
"It was a winding speech, meandering back and forth on a lot of different talking points and policies. After the rally, 13News Now’s military reporter Mike Gooding was scheduled to interview Trump, but his campaign team canceled the interview after asking Gooding what his questions would be, and telling him there was no more time and Trump only wanted to talk about the debate," reported the station.
Before Trump’s visit, Virginia Democrats, along with veterans, held a press conference to criticize Trump for his "suckers" and "losers" remarks. The Biden campaign seized on the interview cancellation, linking it to Trump’s avoidance of challenging questions in a campaign memo.
"Here are just a few questions Donald is running away from answering – many of which he either dodged or lied about on the debate stage: Why can’t you commit to accepting the results of the 2024 election? What do you say to voters who believe that you violated your oath through your actions and inaction on January 6 and worry that you’ll do it again?" stated the memo.
The campaign continued, "What do you say to the service members who you insulted as ‘suckers’ and ‘losers’? Do you think women forced to give birth in states with total abortion bans, risking their lives, is still a ‘beautiful thing’?"
Internet reacts to Donald Trump's decision to cancel interview with military reporter Mike Gooding
The sudden cancellation of the interview with Gooding led to Trump facing a wave of criticism and ridicule from netizens.
One remarked, "This is why Trump only does interviews with pro Trump podcasts or 'news' outlets such as 'Real America's Voice' where the toughest question he gets is 'Were you the greatest president of all time or the 2nd greatest after George Washington, sir?'"
Another quipped, "Donnie could be given the questions in advance and still fail to answer a single one of them," and a person added, "Trump is going to be dodging all kinds of interviews if they aren't in lockstep with him—just like the SC right wing extremists are. He's not taking any questions from anyone who isn't 100% on his side."
"Donnie is a draft dodger and has always hated the military," stated someone else, while one more noted, "The Orange T**d is a tough guy who supposedly instills fear. However, he is afraid of answering simple questions that involve telling the truth."
Another person echoed, "Donnie the cowardly snowflake." "Sounds like Donnie is afraid to run on his record and just wants to peddle his lies to his gullible cultists," said an individual.
A netizen joked, "Truth is Trump’s kryptonite."
