WASHINGTON, DC: Former President Donald Trump said individual states enacting restrictive abortion laws was "a beautiful thing to watch," suggesting it could bring the United States together. In an interview with Fox News' Sean Hannity on June 5, the Republican presumptive nominee repeated his views on abortion while talking about the focal points of Democrats in the November election, according to The Hill.

Reproductive rights took the central stage in the rematch between Trump and his successor, Joe Biden, after the US Supreme Court revoked Roe v Wade in 2022, leaving the right to enact abortion laws to individual states. Since June 2022, twenty-one states banned or severely restricted the procedure earlier than the standard enacted by Roe V Wade in 1973, The New York Times reports.

For instance, the Arizona Supreme in April revived a Civil War-era near-total abortion ban with the only exception to protect the mother's life. However, the state Senate repealed the ban last month.

Donald Trump claims 'people are deciding' on abortion rights

"Now the states are deciding. And by the way, in many cases, like Ohio, it became… more liberal or progressive than people would have thought," the 45th president told Hannity about the latest developments in laws pertaining to reproductive rights.

"And it's taken it off the shoulders of the federal government. Always they wanted it to be decided by the states. And Roe v Wade didn't do that. It put it into the federal government," Trump continued, adding, "So now states are voting on it. And in many cases, it's more…liberal. In many cases, not in all cases. In some cases, they're going the other direction. But the people are deciding. The people are deciding. And in many ways, it's a beautiful thing to watch."

Doubling down on taking credit for upending Roe v Wade, which was possible only due to his appointment of three conservative justices to the SCOTUS, the former president criticized the Democrats as "the radicals" for not backing limits on late-term abortions.

Trump claimed that it was working how "people wanted it to work" and would unify the country on the "very bad" issue. Biden frequently promised to restore Roe v Wade and restore the abortion protections if elected in November.

After months of speculation, Trump in April refused to endorse a national abortion ban if elected for a second term in November. Shifting from his earlier policy, he said it was up to the states to decide on abortion access.

Internet tears into Trump for saying abortion ban 'beautiful thing to watch'

The internet slammed Trump for saying he found individual states' restricting abortion access 'a beautiful thing to watch.'

One user wrote, "Beyond reprehensible. None of their business." Another wrote, "When I thought he couldnt't suprise me more! How much more sick and demented could he possibly be. Any-1 one with a brain stem knows what to do in NOVEMBER! RIGHT!"

"Just when you think more hateful comments couldn’t come out of his disgusting mouth," fumed a third user.

A fourth response read, "The more I listen to Donald Trump, The more appalled I am. Not as a Democrat; but as a human being. He’s a genuinely nasty man. —Stephen King."

Another person stated, "He is disgusting."

"Disgusting. I think Trump in prison would be a beautiful thing," someone else opined. An individual wrote, "Ah, there it is.... the sadistic side of extreme narcissist Trump. How foul and cruel is this."

Another user added, "Trump is a psychopath. That's why he fantasized about shooting people on the street and talks fondly of Hannibal Lecter and Al Capone. He's a deranged sociopath."
