'Don't be fooled': Internet divided as Whoopi Goldberg says her daughter will inherit 'everything'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Whoopi Goldberg is clear about whom she’d be leaving all her wealth to! The television personality talked about the importance of inheritance in a recent episode of ‘The View.’
"One of the great answers is children learn by what they see," she said on the May 2 episode.
"My mother worked her behind off and so that's why I feel the way I feel and I'm leaving my kid everything that I have."
What is Whoopi Goldberg's net worth?
Whoopi Goldberg reportedly has amassed $60 million in wealth and shared that she’d be passing it on to her daughter Alexandrea Martin, 50. She shares her daughter with ex-husband Alvin Martin.
Interestingly, a few A-listers have decided not to leave their entire wealth for their kids. One such celebrity is Guy Fieri, who clarified that his children Hunter, 27, and Ryder, 18, will have to prove themselves worthy for inheriting his money.
"I've told them the same thing my dad told me. My dad says, ‘When I die, you can expect that I'm going to die broke, and you're going to be paying for the funeral,'" he told Fox News.
“And I told my boys, ‘None of this that I've been building are you going to get unless you come and take it from me.'"
Jeff Goldblum shares the same sentiments as Fieri.
"It's an important thing to teach kids. I'm not going to do it for you. And you're not going to want me to do it for you," the actor said on iHeart's 'Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi' podcast.
The ‘Grand Budapest Hotel’ star shares Charlie, 8, and River, 6, with wife Emilie Livingston, reports E!News.
"You've got to figure out how to find out what's wanted and needed and where that intersects with your love and passion and what you can do. And even if it doesn't, you might have to do that anyway," added the 71-year-old.
Internet divided over Goldberg's decision to leave 'everything' for her daughter Alexandrea
Netizens had mixed reactions on Woopi's thoughts on letting children inherit money.
A user commented, "Can’t believe I agree with Whoopi. It’s how generational wealth is created."
"I think it depends on the family dynamic. If you have adult child who never visits or seems to care why leave them a ton of money," another opined.
The third said, "Lots deceptive words from rich people to earn social credit. Trusts are used and other mechanisms."
A user was suspicious of celebs' claims, "Sure, but I do think there are celebs who will genuinely not leave their kids a dime. We all know the story about Joan Crawford and her children, so it does happen."
Another agreed, "Don't be fooled that their children are not getting the money. The rich people's money is set up in trust funds etc..etc, to be dispensed to the kids at various stages of their lives."
