WASHINGTON, DC: Dr Anthony Fauci recently publicly criticized Brandon Fellows, a convicted January 7 Capitol building rioter after he was caught on camera making faces behind the medical expert during a congressional hearing on Covid-19.

This incident, which took place just two weeks after Fellows was released from prison, has sparked widespread discussion and controversy online, the New York Post reported.

During the congressional hearing on Monday, June 3, 2024, Fellows, an upstate New York chimney repairman, positioned himself directly behind Fauci, the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

As Fauci testified about the death threats he received while leading the US's Covid-19 response, Fellows repeatedly made faces, disrupting the session.

When asked about Fellows' behavior, Dr Fauci responded in an interview with CNN, expressing confusion and frustration.

"What’s somebody like that doing at a hearing about COVID?" he questioned. The antics drew significant attention on social media, ultimately leading to Fellows being removed from the subcommittee hearing by security.

CNN reported that Fellows shouted that Fauci "belonged in prison" as he was escorted out. While Fauci admitted he didn't hear the remark, he was informed that "someone who just got out of jail for being arrested for the January 6 attack on the Capitol" had been seated behind him.

Fellows, who was sentenced to over three years in prison for his involvement in the January 6, 2021, Capitol building riot, wasted no time in turning his latest antics into a social media spectacle.

He had been convicted of one felony count of obstruction of an official proceeding and four misdemeanors after being filmed entering the Capitol through a broken window and smoking weed in the office of Senator Jeff Merkley.

Fellows quickly took to social media after the hearing, changing his Facebook cover photo to an image of himself making a face behind Fauci and boasting about his actions.

"Democrats are hilariously LOSING THEIR MINDS!" he wrote. He described his attendance at the hearing as "fun," although he acknowledged it wasn't necessarily an accomplishment.

"Today marks 2 weeks since being released. I considered this fun, not necessarily an accomplishment, but I’ve been accomplishing a decent amount and having tons of fun the past 2 weeks," he posted.

Fellows had previously made headlines post-riot by claiming his Bumble dating profile was "blowing up" due to his newfound infamy, asserting he had no regrets about his actions on January 6.
