Drew Seeley claims Vanessa Hudgens ‘resented’ him on ‘High School Musical’ tour because of Zac Efron
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Drew Seeley has revealed in a recent interview that Vanessa Hudgens probably “resented” him as she had to sing to him and not then-boyfriend Zac Efron on the ‘High School Musical’ concert tour.
‘High School Musical: The Concert’ happened across the US, Canada, and Latin. It began in November 2006 before concluding in May 2007.
Now, Seeley has opened up about the experience on an episode of Will Friedle and Sabrina Bryan’s Disney Channel Original Movie rewatch podcast ‘Magical Rewind’, as per People.
Drew Seeley calls ‘High School Musical’ cast ‘lovely’
Though Zac Efron was in the movie, he couldn’t join the cast for the tour because of the shooting schedule of the 2007 film adaption of the Broadway musical ‘Hairspray’. So, the Canadian singer, who sang for Efron’s Troy Bolton in the 2006 Disney Channel movie, went for the tour.
Seeley shared with Friedle and Bryan, “I hit it off with them. They were so lovely,” referring to the cast members.
The 42-year-old actor, however, noted, “I do think Vanessa resented it a little bit when I was on tour because she was like, ‘I wanna sing to my boyfriend every night, not this guy'.”
Drew Seeley has no idea why Zac Efron was not asked to sing his songs
During the podcast, Drew Seeley also spoke about recording songs for the Troy Bolton character before the film shooting.
“I was never told why they did it the way that they did it. But I think that they were within about three, four weeks of shooting the actual film, and they had me and not Zac,” he disclosed.
The ‘Write Before Christmas’ star also stated that he and “the rest of the movie cast all go into the studio for, like, four days straight and record all the songs together,” before adding, “So, yeah, I knew that I was doing that.”
Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron met during ‘High School Musical’ auditions
Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron reportedly began dating after meeting during ‘High School Musical’ auditions in 2005. Two years later, in 2007, they confirmed their relationship.
The movie's choreographer Chucky Klapow had revealed to People, how the 37-year-old actor felt about the singer at the time and recalled the conversation he had with Zefron one night.
“I don't know what to do, man. Vanessa is super into me, and I have feelings for her, too. I don't want to do the wrong thing with my girlfriend. But I also don't want to shut Vanessa down and ruin the chemistry in the movie,” Klapow recalled.
However, the duo broke off in 2010. At the time, a tipster said, “They are 100 percent still good friends.”
Another source added, as reported by E! News, “It's nothing dramatic. There's no third party involved.”
